Is this cool or what? Motonews.com is sending a rider to the US Open!
Engine Ice Daily News: Loretta's Results and Photos, or www.mxsports.com Special US Open preview section
Team France won the 2001 MXdN! The team of Demaria, Seguy, and Mototalker David Vuillemin finished ahead of Begium after Smets had a bad 3rd moto. This was France's first MXdN win. The win is significant for Vuillemin because he wasn't happy about not being on France's team last year. This year he said he wasn't interested but then took Pichon's place after a disagreement over a fine caused him to pull out. Everts was impressive, winning two motos. Australia's Michael Byrne broke a wrist. Chad Reed, who will be racing in the US next year for YOT, was also impressive winning one moto. For details go to www.motogp.com. Check out Kawasaki's complete 2002 off-road line in the photos section, click here. Travis Pastrana will raffle his US Open helmet to aid victims of the disaster. Tickets are $10. Read more here.
This set of RC's MXdN graphics will be auctioned off for the Clear Channel Sept 11 Relief Fund. Go to www.racerxill.com and go to Racerhead to get the details.
This fake photo of a jet about to hit the WTC is all over the web. It is definately a fake. Here's a link to a de-bunker that did a good job of it, About dot com. Would you like to pick a name for your military operation? Easy, just click here.
Anyway, just like the other shirts, they are $15.00, with $1.50 from each shirt
sold, going to the Red Cross Relief Fund.
Rumor frogs: Here's a few updates on the US Open, some confirmed, some not; Jason Thomas in the 4 stroke race on a YZ426, Keith Johnson on a Vertimati. KTM riders for the Engine Ice 125cc Amateur's Cup: Chad Ward and Drew Kain. Jason Thomas is in Phoenix this weekend signing autographs for Korupt Klothing, see www.koruptklothing.com. MXdN Update from Dorna: Fourteen teams qualified for tomorrow's MXDN; the top fourteen teams of this qualifying day (Australia, France, Great Britain, New Zealand, Sweden, Germany, Estonia, South Africa, Finland, Spain, Portugal, Ireland, Czech Republic and Latvia) joined Belgium and Italy on the starting grid of the MXDN. The first four teams of the non-qualified race held Sunday morning will be also competiting the Motocross des Nations. Heat 125: 1.Seguy; 2.Sword; 3.Byrne; 4.Jorgensen; 5.Bernardez; 6.Goncalves;
7.Hurley; 8.Leok; 9.Johansson; 10.Pyrhonen; etc
Note: Italy and Belgium don't need to qualify due to top three finishes
last year. Australia led qualifying. Sept. 24, 01, Temecula, CA - PointXCamp is proud to unveil the illustration
plans for the 260-acre Action Sports Camp located in Reed Valley, CA (please see link
below). Additional construction is scheduled to begin on the already
functioning campground in December 2001. The Camp will open June 2, 2002.
2001 east region EA Sports Supercross champion Travis Pastrana stopped by the Clear Channel office recently. Here he is checking out Supercross tracks maps with Supercross boss Todd Jendro. Also from Clear Channel: "Honda ready for 2002" After Jeremy McGrath left them in
1996, Team Honda has not won a 250cc supercross championship. This may change.
With three new additions to the team - Ernesto
Fonseca, Ricky Carmichael, and Nathan Ramsey
- race team manager
Chuck Miller has a solid line up. From Shawn Norfolk at Renthal: Renthal America's sales for the fiscal year of 2001, have surpassed 2000's sales. In a year without a factory, we were blessed and achieved the unachievable. Again, we would like to thank all of our friends and co-workers in the industry for their support. We also need to thank all of our Distributors and Dealers for staying with us and supporting us through this entire ordeal. Our factory has now been rebuilt, and it is back to business as usual for us. Renthal is going nowhere...except to the front of the pack!
Here is a great Gravity Games road trip story by Kevin Rempel and Steve Densmore. Nick Wey and Steve Matthis are not going to McGrath Racing after all. Something happened with team sponsorship (not Mazda related) so they are back on the market. After this MC won't have a teammate, so McGrath Racing won't be at the nationals. From MXTRAINER: Justin Buckelew will be getting his new Suzuki next Tuesday for testing and getting a feel for the new bikes. Travis Preston is pumped, he already has his CR 125 and will be picking up a 250 next week as well. Both are very motivated for the upcoming season. WMR Competition Performance has the following riders it supports: Matt Goerke, DC Clark, Drew Kain, Brian Johnson Jr., and Shawn Skinner. Check them out at www.wmr1.com.
From Denny Hartwig and MXGEOFF: 19-year-old Australian Chad Reed is without doubt an interesting addition
to the American EA SPORTS Supercross ranks. The young Aussie claimed second place in this
years World 250cc Motocross championship, winning the Dutch Grand Prix and showing new
World 250cc Motocross champion Mickael Pichon
a thing or two about Supercross skills. Several tracks on the GP calendar included
American style whoops sections, it was in these sections that nobody could match Reed's
speed. Reed also won a Supercross race in Belgium in May, leading home European GP hero's Stefan Everts, Gordon Crockard and Joel Smets.
Racer X confirms MC is "in" for the US Open! Last year the Open was an accurate preview of the next EA Sport Supercross series, will be be again? Expect to see Nick Wey there too, MC's teammate. Clear Channel has aquired Planit Promotions in the UK, here's the press release. Snoop to Tuf/Pro Circuit Kawasaki team? Snoop! Tell all! Who build bikes best? Take the latest poll!

Lightning-quick internet reporter JT$ (Jason Thomas) reports Canada's JS-Roy is out with a broken hand. Roy recently won the Montreal SX. Why is Josh Summey smiling after
20 minutes in the mud at the Red Bud Fall Classic?
Fred Andrews won his second GNCC in a row, Shane Watts struggled for 6th, and Brock Sellards slipped back from third and eventually pulled out when his rear tire started coming off the rim. Sellards was using a moose tube and they suspected the tire bead was damaged when it was installed. Photos from the High Point GNCC are here! Kelly Smith, who is close to a deal with Moto XXX to race Yamaha's in 2002, won the first and only moto at the 4-Stroke National at Red Bud. The second moto was rained out due to a lot of standing water and deep ruts.
Smets won the Austrian GP but Everts is the 500cc world champion. (Geukens photo). Pichon won the 250 class, his 10th win, and Eggens won the 125 race. Michael Bryne worked out his bike problems after Team USA pulled out of the MXdN. He was going to have a Factory Connection CR sent with RC's Honda. Now a Euro team will supply him with a CR and a mechanic. His Factory Connection mechanic Allen Brown is still going, mainly to do suspension.
Arenacross jump contest start Mike Mason is returning to the series with Big Valley Honda and AXO.
Bradley Page won the pro ATV class Saturday at the High Point GNCC. Click here for a photo feature. Tomorrow we see how Broc Sellards does against the pro regulars in the GNCC. Check out http://www.lightsourcegraphics.com/Recreational/Recreational.html for cool vintage posters.
2001 WML Champion Tania Satchwell
(New Zealand) renewed her contract and will be defending her #1 plate out of the AGP

Rounding out the team (signed yesterday) will be Michigan's 17 year old Sarah Whitmore (#4 in 2002). Sarah went 2-3-1 for
second overall at Loretta's and was on the podium for the last 3 rounds of the AMA/WML
Bel-Ray Women's Outdoor National Series.

America's top cop in the investigation of last week's terrorist attacks is none other than Atty Gen. John Ashcroft (R), a friend of motocross. Last year he was part of the show opening at the St Louis SX. Here he shares a moment with Roger DeCoster.
New Practice Track video, "Old Man Pickle Nose" It look like Kevin Kelly is practicing his starter skills on traffic. www.practicetrack.net. Brent Lee sent this report and results from the Montreal Supercross, Sept 15.
Mad Mike Jones is on his way to the second round of the Triple Crown of FMX at Tacoma. He has already committed his winnings from the weekend (assuming he wins something) to the relief effort that Clear Channel is organizing. Sebastien Tortelli is having shoulder surgery and may be out as long at 4 months, missing the first round of EA Sports Supercross at Anaheim in 2002. David Vuillemin's first race in Oxbow gear will be Stade de France in Paris, Oct 21. So RC isn't racing the US Open, according to what he told Pat Schutte at Racer X. Why? The plan was he would get ready for the MXdN (now the trip is off) and then test SX on his Honda and see if he feels good enough to win on it. He did test SX already, and since he said the first race we will see him on is Anaheim, that indicates he still has a lot of homework to do. Steve Mathis, who is now Kelly Smith's mechanic, will be Nick Wey's next year at McGrath Racing. Lou Lopez of Sunstar Sprockets is the proud papa of a baby boy, Carter Macias Lopez, born Sept 13. Jeremy Riesenberg sent in this interview of Sponsorhouse.com's RK Kraus. Check it out, you can learn more about this unique way to get riders and sponsors hooked up.
Check out page 152 of the November Racer X! Just do it. The Teams 2002 page got some updates, and who is wearing what gear, so far.

In addition to the very fast regulars in the series, KTM's Broc Sellards is racing. It should be fun. Scott Summers announced his retirement at the Honda dealershow. Read about it here. Here's the best reason to get to the Des Moines Arenacross early, http://www.sprocketskarting.com/, check out this cool kart track. Motonews is going there for sure!
New Kawasakis! Kawasaki sent a selection of photos of 2002 models, there are here. Also married last weekend, Damon Huffman and his fiance Heidi, with Steve Hudson doing the ceremony.
MC's web site, www.nacnac.com, is selling special No Fear T-shirts, and some of the money is going to the Red Cross: From nacnac.com: "In an effort to bring this country together and to
support the red cross, No Fear has created a program that will raise This is a time to come together and show our pride as Americans and these No
Fear t-shirts are a great way to show
Another way to help, from Shyla: Tom Fedro is a fairly well known artist who has done a painting in memorial of the tragedy that happened this week. Attached is a picture of the painting. Prints will be made of this work of art (24 x 30 inches) and you can get your own for $100. All proceeds from these prints will be donated to the American Red Cross, and other organizations working to help us all recover from this great loss. If you are interested, please see Shyla's web page (www.noshy1.com) or you can e-mail the artist at Fidostudio@aol.com. Please tell all of your friends about this opportunity as any amount of money we can raise will help those in need.
Its a busy time for rumors. The emag News section has a special rumor update, some short turn, some long term. Don't miss this one! Kawasaki, as you know, didn't hold it annual dealer meeting due to the Sept 11 attacks. They sent this news item out about the new 2002 models. Japan has also decided to pull out of of the Motocross des Nations in Namur. Damien Plotts is still homeless for 2002. Plotts has a great first full year as a pro, earning #44 for 2001. This year a broken collarbone kept him out of some nationals and he will be #73 for 2002. Jeremy Garges from Boyesen is helping him hunt for a ride for 2002 so if you have something drop Jeremy an email at mjgarges@msn.com. Photos from Stephane Roncada's and Chloe Maigre's wedding in Laguna Beach are up!
The withdrawal of Team USA from the MXdN is causing difficulty for Australia's Michael Byrne. Byrne came to the US to get ready for the MXdN and rode a Factory Connection CR125 at Steel City. American Honda was going to ship his bike with RC's but now that's off. Also his mechanic for the event, Allen Brown, has been stranded in the northeast US since the attacks last week.
Team USA's Ryan Hughes at St Jean d' Angely last year.
Coming to the US Open, Travis Pastrana.

Mototalker Gforce:
Check out the Del Mar Motorcycle Celebrity Golf Tournament presented by Deutsche Financial Services, which is held Oct 5 to benefit the Clayton Foundation. Vuillemin will be running #12 next year, no more #934. Jason Thomas, who didn't make it to the Montreal Supercross due to a travel story from hell, reports 2-time CART champion Alex Zanardi lost both his legs in a horrible crash in Germany. Here is a link to the news story. Also, the news isn't on his site yet, but if you want to check in its www.alex-zanardi.com.
Team USA is not going to the Motocross des Nations in Namur. An announcement is expected from the AMA today. Respect for the victims of the terrorist attack on America and safety are the reasons. Also, the AMA has finalized the national number list for 2002 here it is! The FIM isn't cancelling any events, according to Cycle News. Grant Langston is getting shoulder surgery instead of racing the MXdN for South Africa. For the whole scoop check out his web site at www.langstonracing.com. Ricky Carmichael is testing Honda's today. The guy with no official job until the Honda dealer show doesn't have as much pressure since the MXdN trip is off. Now they will see if he feels ready to race Supercross by the US Open. If he feels ready he's going for it. If not, he and Honda don't want people talking smack about his bike switch if he isn't ready, so it won't be worth it. If you had to bet (hey its Vegas) bet yes. American Honda reports a 2002 Honda CRF450R press bike stolen on September 14th from the Woodland Hills, California area. The VIN on this motorcycle is JH2PE05312M000031. We would appreciate anyone having any information leading to the recovery of the bike to call 310-532-9811. There are only a total of 9 of these things in the US right now. This one was a "Press Bike" that Honda loans to magazines.
Should USA still go to the MXdN in Namur? Is it safe? Should we go in this environment? DC asked for your opinion on Mototalk. You can click your answer on the latest Motonews.com poll. Per orders from his Dr, Ryan Hughes will retire from racing. His concussion at Steel City was one too many. Ryno was in line for an outdoor-only deal with McGrath racing, which he had to decline. Ryno wants to work with younger riders as a trainer and perhaps a long term SX/MX school, and become active in working on some guidelines for returning to racing after a head injury. Denny Hartwig from Clear Channel sent in this Buddy Antunez Interview. The "Budman" talks about his return to EA Sports Supercross after 5 Arenacross championships.
It looks like the French MXdN team, as least for today, is Luigi Seguy, David Vuillemin, and Yves DeMaria. DeMaria won both motos of the Namur GP last year. According to French media, Pichon was unhappy with a fine he got from the FFM last year over a helmet fin, which is not approved in France. Here's a translation of what Pichon said: "I took the decision not to ride the MXdN even if I really wanted to race. During last Bercy I had some troubles with the French Moto Federation because I rode with a non-conform helmet (fin denied). They asked me to come at the federation during the GP season but I didn't find time to and they so gave me a $1.500 penalty. I so asked the federation to give my money back before the MXdN. If they give me the money back I'll apologize to the fans and the press then I'll ride the MXdN for France. I made a lot of efforts and sacrifice, I'm not afraid about riding against Carmichael or Everts." There still could be changes if Tortelli feel recovered from him bruised eye he suffered at Binghamton.
It's no business as usual across America after one of America's most tragic days ever. Four coordinated hijackings targeted the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, resulting in the complete collapse of the building and great loss of life. Air traffic was shut down, people went home, and America waits to see what happens next. Numerous motorcycle events across the country are cancelled. Mototalkers are posting phone numbers offering assistance for stranded travellers. Mototalk 2. (Irvine, Calif. September 11, 2001) In the wake of todays tragedies
in New York and Washington, D.C., Kawasaki Motors Corp., U.S.A. has cancelled its annual
Dealer Meeting, which had been scheduled for September 15-18, 2001 in Anaheim, Calif.

The special GNCC photo section is done! Check out all four pages. Mototalker Alan Gerkey, trainer for Roncada, Buckelew, and Travis Preston suffered an AC separation while riding yesterday. Inspired by Grant Langston's amazing ability to hang in there with such an injury, Alan isn't going to stop training. Roncada thinks he's going to get a break, but Alan says, "no way!"
Page 1 of photos from the John Penton GNCC are up here. AX TEAM MANAGERS: Motocross privateer Jonathan Long is looking to make the switch to racing AX in '02. He told Motonews "A lot of factors have made me want to start racing AX. Two nights of racing, 4 mains, and all the bar banging...each weekend! The time seems to be right. Buddy is going back to SX, and there is a title up for grabs. I want to be in that dog fight. My riding style and frame really mix well with the tight AX tracks. With good equipment I'm confident I can be up front every weekend. Thats what wins the AX championship. I'll bring that consistency to a team." You can contact Jonathan directly: umassmxer@aol.com From Denny Hartwig at Clear Channel: Team Chevy Trucks Kawasaki's Ezra Lusk has teamed up with extreme sport guru Randy Lawrence for the 2002 season of EA SPORTS Supercross. Lawrence, who spun wrenches for seven-time supercross champion Jeremy McGrath, will take the place of Lusk's old mechanic Mike Gosselaar. Although Lawrence didn't work for McGrath in 2001, he was no stranger to the supercross scene. Lawrence competed in last year's third-annual Crossover Challenge and finished first. Don't miss the US Open! The pro 250 class turnout will be great, plus you get Mad Mike and Trevor Vines, Bubba in the 125 thing, our own Cole Boutwell in the 80 class, BBR racing and Arenacross Sunday, and Vegas! MGM Hotel / Ticket packages for the THQ U.S. Open are a big hit. These packages include two nights at the MGM Grand hotel. Tickets for both nights of racing. Pit passes for the entire weekend and a complimentary event program. There are two price levels available... $389 and $469... the difference being the price of the ticket... $60 or $100 per night. These packages offer some of the best seats in the house. The $100 seats are in section U15 and the $60 are in L215... Great Seats! There is a limited number of these packages and we expect to sell out of them this week. Please call toll free 877-523-9916 for further information. (see attached)
Larry Maiers with John Penton, who started the John Penton GNCC in Millfield Ohio Sunday.
Justin Buckelew, who injured his shoulder at Red Bud, will be back on a bike any day and will start training for 125 west Supercross with our own MXTRAINER, who's web site is www.motocrosstrainer.com. He doesn't have a mechanic yet because his last mechanic is staying on at Yamaha of troy, which lost two already to Honda. Kenny G and Bundy are going to Honda with Fonseca and Ramsey. Kawasaki factory rider Stephane Roncada and Chloe Maigre are getting married in Laguna Beach, September 16th.
Trish Dowd squeezes Ryder LaRocco. Steel City People photos are up!
Charlene Leith, whose hubby is John Dowd's mechanic, is looking forward to the US Open. Kawasaki has been shopping for a mechanic for Lusk. Right now it look like it may be Randy Lawrence, who was with McGrath when he won three Supercross titles. According to Racer X (www.racexill.com), Mike Brown picked AMA #3, since the number was available. #3 was previously Jeff Emig. Everyone is asking when the 2002 AMA numbers will be out. They may be ready as early as next week. The person that does them is at the ISDE. Newly crowned WML national champion Tania Satchwell is on the way to California to do a feature with Fox Sports about women's MX. Yamaha is supplying the bike. Satchwell rides for our esteemed Loretta's week web site sponsor AGP Graphics, which is adding another rider next year.
Someone gave David Pingree this cool T-shirt that says "Save the 2-stroke!" Tuf Racing is looking for a trainer to work with their Arenacross riders in Southern Ca. For more info contact Chris Hunter at chunter@tconl.com. The Teams 2002 page is updated. The word on the street is Travis Preston will be at Factory Connection (unconfirmed). Mike LaRocco is looking forward to the US Open, here's an interview.
Speedvision was aquired by Fox recently. As part of the transition, the Speedvision.com site will take a break for about 3 months, starting in October. So if you go there and no one is home, wait until January. The US Open will feature the Maxxis/BBR Editors Challenge, a race between all you favorite magazine editors. Each will ride a TTR 150 Honda hand built by BBR. Very Cool! Here's the press release. Here's a note from Mototalk by Ronron's trainer Alan Gerkey: "With the help of Bobby Moore and Road to Recovery we were able to assist Dr. Augustine at the last National of the year by having Eddie Casillas there to help with riders injuries. A lot of people say a lot of things about helping with the injuries riders suffer but very few do anything about it. We are trying to make a difference by having Eddie on hand to assist with evaluations and taping of injured areas. This will allow the riders to do their job or find out if what appears to be a minor injury is really something worse. We are looking at a long term commitment to our riders. Down the road we hope to have a mobile x-ray unit and all personnel available, to get our riders the best service possible. Take a stand and make a difference, it is our sport, lets take care of it and the racers who make it happen." -Alan (http://www.motocrosstrainer.com/) Steve Boniface has been released from FC already and has been riding his new KTM125. He had a second moto holeshot at Steel City and held second for 8 laps. Watch for him to have a great year in 2002.
According to Sondra at CMC, the new riding facility at Saddleback was closed due to opposition from the Irvine Co, which owns a lot of land in the area, not including the track. CMC's first race there (a Trans Cal Sept 9) was moved to Competition Park.
Strung Out's drummer Jordon Burns, a founder of Team Moto XXX, will be on Practice Track's Dead Motocrosser's Society weg radio show tonight on www.practicetrack.net. Sebastien Tortelli has been in France having his blurred vision checked out. He has a bruised retina and a full recover is expected soon. The injury happened in the second moto at Binghamton. His trainer Yannick is getting married in France this weekend and then he is returning to get ready for the MXdN. Reynard has checked out a few different bikes lately, next on the list is a Husqvarna. He is skipping the US Open to train, so no 4-stroke race for RR.
RC having fun at Steel City. (Jere Pittner photos)
Can anyone explain whay Natedog has a flower on his bike in the first moto at Steel City? Motonews visited Ryan Hughes at Westmoreland hospital east of Pittsburgh Tuesday. He is pretty banged up after a practice crash at Steel City Saturday. He has cuts and bruises, cracked ribs and shoulder blade, punctured lung, and they did surgery on his right thumb. He also had a concussion. He is returning to California Wednesday to recover, and he and his wife Jenn look forward to baby #2 in a couple of months. This week's Cycle News paper features X Games photos by our favorite Smack-Talking-Web-Kid Chris Tedesco, of www.motoxcentral.com. Cycle News now features photos from TFS and STWK, are they big time now or what?
Everts at Lierop. Everts may be USA's toughest competition at Namur Sept 30. (Geukens photo)
Mike Brown wins 125 championship! In one of the most dramatic and impressive showdowns for a national motocross championsip we have ever seen, Mike Brown took the title, RC showed the 125 guys how to twist the throttle and broke Barnett's record, and Grant Langston had the title in sight when his rear wheel broke, causing him to DNF with just two laps to go in the 2nd moto. KW won the 250 class, but there was so much excitement in 125s the 250 race seemed like filler. Here's the full story on the 125 race of the year. Ezra Lusk, the newest member of Team Kawasaki! Click on Ezra to see photos of him testing his Chevy Trucks Kawasaki. Also, if you have a web site, help yourself to these photos, courtesy of Kawasaki.
You won't have to wait more than another day to see photos of Lusk on his new KX after he gets released from his contract today. For RC/Honda photos, we may have to wait as long as a couple of weeks. Honda wants RC to make his red debut at their dealer show. Until then, the control and fuss over everything red and RC will be unprecedented. Fox has gear ready but they can't give it to him and they have to keep track of it so it doesn't get out. All this secrecy at this point is silly! Honda should just relax and hold a press conference Monday or whatever and get the word out. If they wait until the show they risk another web circus like they had when they debuted Tortelli on the CRF450R in Japan.
Who's In/Who's Out for Steel City IN: Ryno, but took a really hard fall in practice, now he's out. OUT: Tallon Vohland
RC looked happy to be on a 125 again at Steel City. He was plenty fast too. A major showdown will happen tomorrow. Some Steel City pit buzz, Moto XXX talking to Kelly Smith (YZ250F), they want 4 riders next year. MC will be racing two more Supercross seasons, and very likely a new title sponsor.
Ron Heben, new KTM team manager, just in time to watch Langston at Steel City.
Engine Ice won an incredible 14 titles at Loretta's, and 9 at Ponca City, read about it here. Also WMR Competition Performance won its first title at Loretta's, heres the press release. Sponsorhouse.com has a new way for riders and sponsors to hook up when planning for next season, check out this press release. Josh Demuth is in for Steel City on a YZ250F. Motoworld confirmed it's 2002 team in this press release. Tuf Racing Honda's Arenacross team will be Jiri Dostal, Chad Johnson and Jeff Willoh. Here's a page covering the new Saddleback Park facility. Schutte did a great interview with Travis Pastrana on www.racerxill.com, check out what he says about RC in the 125 class this weekend. Also he said he's in for the US Open. Practice Track, the worst magazine there is, and a must-read, also has a bad web site with a weekly radio show. It's hard to believe these guys can keep a computer running, but go to www.practicetrack.net and slap the Dead Motocrosser's Society.
