RC gave a riding school at High Point, weather was great this time, and Reed went 1-1 while Brown hurt a knee, Bubba hurt a knee and DNF'd a moto with a leaking radiator.  Reed now leads the 125 series after 3 of 12 rounds.

According to MariniTallon Vohland injured a vertebrae at the Italian GP in a crash with Alex Puzar.  There does not appear to be nerve damage at this point.

Now I Have Seen Everything Dept:  Our own Brad Z, maker of web sites for folks like MC, Ferry, Langston, Reed, Fonseca, and www.mxnationals.com, melts down his PCs, so here is a page about a water-cooled PC he built!

Robbie Skaggs left 3D Racing and raced High Point in different graphics.

05/26/02:   198

Pichon got the pole position for the Italian GP this weekend, his 4th out of 5 races.  Kawasaki's Kenneth Gundersen was second.  Everts got the 500 class pole by a small margin over Smets

Racing:  Fastest lap times and a short summary of High Point's Saturday are here.  Windham and LaRocco are still out.  Pingree also isn't racing but is expected to be with Plano Honda next weekend.  Skaggs moved out of the 3D racing pits and is on his own.  Arenacross regulars Robby McQuary, Demuth, Hofmaster, Tom Kelley, and Travis Hodges rode Saturday.

Check the usual moto sites Sunday afternoon to see if someone with Bubba news can snag a phone line!

Photos:  Photos from High Point Saturday practice

Weather was great for Saturday practice at High Point-no rain!  Tortelli had the fastest lap times. Bubba crashed hard in the second practice but tried to ride again, then pulled off.  Hamblin is full-on Suzuki factory now, with No Fear gear and a deal that will take him to the rest of the nationals.

Racer X says Bubba may see a Dr tonight, and we aren't sure about tomorrow.

Tim Ferry had the least trouble with the step up triple Saturday.

New human!  Vance Coombs.

Langston is out for this weekend.  In interviews after the races at Hangtown he said the knee was hurting worse than the weekend before and he would see a Dr. Then we hear he is missing this weekend.  Bummer.

Also out:  Steve Lamson and Ramsey.

Supercross will be getting a new title sponsor very soon.  An announcement is expected.

New faces at the nationals:

Sean Hamblin

Daryl Hurley

Cool rider site:  The website for the "next" Costa Rican to come to the States - Pro Circuit/No Fear/North Texas Yamaha's Edgardo Rojas - is up. The link is www.rojasmx.com.  Here you can find reports from the Costa Rica Nationals and Arenacross and the same will be up soon in Spanish for Edgardo's fans in Costa Rica and Latin America.

Reynard was 5th in the first moto at Hangtown, and was slowed in the second when he lost his brakes.  His bike is so fast it has attracted the attention of the Honda folks, who wanted a peek inside the motor to see what they did.  Reynard's dad told them sure, you can look, just hand over some brakes.  Done deal.

Hard working dad:  Travis Pastrana's dad Robert spends time at the nationals sweeping concrete start gates for everyone.  It doesn't matter what riders or what team-he stays out there while practice starts to make sure everyone gets a clean spot to practice burnouts.  (Kristen Cheatwood photo)

Racer X's Scott Wallenburg doubles as a rock star.

Business:  Here's a complete list of the EA Sports Supercross awards from the banquet.

From journalist Dave Deringer:   In for High Point: Tommy Hofmaster and Dave Oettel. Both have been out with back injuries.  Hofmaster on YZ250F in 125 class. Oettel on Husky's.  Also, there is going to be an online auction starting sunday for Brian O'Rourke of Team Faith. he has a lot of mx stuff from sx and ax. He is the pit pastor on the ax and watercross tours and is trying to raise a little money.  Check www.teamfaith.com

Also from Mario Marini:  ANOTHER ITALIAN SIDELINED
Three time 125 world champion Alessio "Chicco" Chiodi discovered that he has got a broken vertebra. In the last GP run in France alsmost two weeks ago, the Italian was involved in a first corner crash that left him on ground with a sore back and breathing problems. He went to the hospital right away but the doctors didn't find any particular damage. Once back home he didn't ride for a week and when the last weekend he tried to make a few laps on his 250cc Chesterfield Yamaha it resulted hard to just  complete a couple of laps. Yesterday morning he went to the Villa Serena Clinic in Forlė and it was found out that the T4 vertebra is partially broken. Chicco will miss for sure the Italian GP, coming up this weekend, and will try to be back in Austria on June 9th. Along with Andrea Bartolini (who yesterday got hurt at the International MX race of Brou in France and could be out as long as a month) and Claudio Federici (still recovering from a bad injury occurried at the first Italian National Round in February) Italy will host a GP without its stars, these in fact were member of the team that in '99 won the MXdN in Brazil.

Racer X confirmed that Travis Pastrana did break his wrist at Hangtown, and will be out a while.  The people who were saying he needs more time off can relax now.

05/19/02:   197

From Mario MariniBARTOLINI PROBABLY TO LOOSE THE ITALIAN MXGP
3rd in the 500 class point standings former world champion Andrea Bartolini today went under surgery to fix a dislocated (braking) finger of his right hand. While racing the first moto of the International MX race of Brou in France the Italian got injuried coming off  a big jump and in the landing process he lost control and dislocated the finger. It was immediately tempted a in-site relocation of the finger but it turned out to be really hard. The operation room remained the only option for the Honda Europe factory rider who now is probably expected to wait some 20 days before jumping back on his CRF450R. The race (run as open formula with bikes from every class racing together) was won by Mickeal Pichon who had reason of Joel Smets, Stefan Everts and Joshua Coppins.

05/18/02:   197

Hangtown was an interesting mix of dry and mud, with the big rain hitting right between motos.  It didn't matter for RC and Bubba though, they both ruled with a 1-1.  Pastrana crashed out of the first moto and went to the hospital with a suspected broken navicular in his wrist.  Ferry and Vuillemin were second and third.  Hamblin did so well (6-9), he started the weekend in a box van and ended it with his #99 Sobe Suzuki parked in the factory pits, where he will be next weekend.  Roncada and RC got into it on the first moto first lap, which ended when RC ran him into some haybales and Ronron banged up his leg.

From Dr Bodnar:  Just talked to Dave Castillo....from Marian Medical Center in Santa Maria, CA....He was jumping at the Castillo Ranch Track and "slightly" overshot a 250 foot monster hill jump.  His front wheel collapsed on landing and he slid 150 feet to the bottom.  He
was airlifted to the hospital and luckily only had a broken clavicle and a gnarly case of road rash all over his body.  The hospital is discharging him today and will need to rest up for the next month at least.  The session was being filmed for an upcoming video and the
whole spectacle was caught on video, movie and stills as well as a shot from a helicopter.

Sellards out:  Brock's brother Marcus reports he has a virus:  "Brock received his blood work back from the doctor on Friday before Glen Helen and got some bad news. The doctor said he said the test was positive for the Epstein Barr virus which is a severe form of mono. We spoke with Jeff Stanton and he said from past experience that Brock would be out most of the summer. This has plagued Brock all season and it was getting frustrating that the doctors kept saying it was a sinus infection and prescription medicine was not helping."

Photos:  71 Photos from Glen Helen Thursday (practice and press) are up.

The situation with Kevin Windham was just too weird.  Even on Thursday's practice day few people really knew what was up.  Here is the deal:  KW has 2 doctors, one says he can ride and the other thinks he needs about 5 weeks.  He will miss Glen Helen and Hangtown for sure, and probably High Point.  Suzuki does expect him to be back for Southwick, round 4.

Yesterday Nick Wey re-injured a knee that he hurt last year and will be out a few weeks.

LaRocco was riding practice on the CRF450R at Glen Helen Thursday but the decision was made he won't race because his wrist isn't strong enough yet.

Fox's crew RC and Bubba completely dominated the EA Sports Supercross finals at Las Vegas.  RC only had to pass fast-starting Kyle Lewis for his win, and Bubba had to pass Chris Gosselaar before he checked out.  Reed was second in the 125 shootout.

Everyone's favorite TV announcer Art Eckman is leaving ESPN.  He hasn't announced it yet but people know.  Art has been the voice of SX/MX for so long it is hard to imagine a moto TV show without him on it.  This sux.  Hopefully Art will stick around moto and find something to do.  Hey, he did some photos at Bercy and they were pretty good...

Vegas weekend silly season update:  Grant Langston signed with KTM to ride for 2 more years, and its on a 250.  This ended speculation he would go with Suzuki.  Now the main moves for silly season will depend on if Honda keeps Tortelli, if Suzuki keeps Windham, and what brand of bike McGrath Racing goes with and if they find a teammate for MC.

The annual Supercross award banquet is the Sunday after the Vegas finals, and it's the party of the year for the moto teams.  The banquet is always first class, and a lot of fun.  After a night of partying (and recovery) people can focus on Glen Helen.

Rock Band does good:  This isn't Strung Out, but the babes are hot.  This came from Strung Out:  "STRUNG OUT BREAKS INTO THE BILLBOARD TOP 200 NATIONAL SALES CHARTS.   "An American Paradox" entered the charts at #186 this week and it was all due to the incredibly loyal fan base we have as well as the hard work of Jason, Eric,Toby, Brian, Vanessa, Marc, and everyone else at our lovely label, Fat Wreck Chords. This is big exciting news for us being its the first time we have entered the Billboard charts. What does it mean?  It means that each and every single one of you hardcore dedicated Strung Out fans is so appreciated. It's just so rewarding to realize the ongoing non-stop support you people have given to us. We can't thank you enough. The new website has also received 20,000 plus hits since it's launch on April 23rd which has pretty much blown us away as well. Hats off to Brandon for his long time continuous efforts with www.strung-out.com.  We can't thank him enough. Well, we can't wait to get back on the road to start playing for all of you. We hope to make it everywhere that there are people that want to see us. We will do our best. Look forward to seeing you all at a show."

A rumor has been kicking around that Plano Honda's manager Kenny Watson was let go and replaced by Ryan Hughes.  This isn't confirmed yet and Motonews will be asking around today.

Former national champion Albee was reportedly talking to Suzuki about a comeback but its not happening, at least not today!

From Kawasaki:  James Stewart is featured in this week's Sports Illustrated (April 29th issue with Kenyon Martin on the cover). It is featured in the Adventure section that was included in a limited edition, available to about one-half of the normal circulation base. The article, entitled "Eye of a Tiger," gives a brief rundown on Stewart's quick rise to the professional ranks and highlights his family background and friendship with baseball star Ken Griffey. There is also a subtle mention of his similarities to another famous African-American sports star named Tiger.
