People sections, here's Atlanta
Travis Pastrana is
not racing St Louis, according to DC on
Racerhead.
Many of the riders doing LXD qualifiers for the X
Games are not happy with the dates that conflict with IFMA events, low
payout, and track conditions. This led to
Dustin Miller leaving an X Games qualifier last weekend and he
did the second night of an IFMA instead. Some of the flap is posted on
www.freestylemx.com, and some on
Mototalk. There is pit buzz about a rider
organization/union/something, and some are wondering if the X Games are
worth the trouble. This one will heat up on the web all week!

Kenny Bartram won
the first night of the IFMA freestyle at Indy, a Vans Triple Crown event.
Mad Mike sat out the evening because he
crashed hard in practice and was very sore and had a black eye.
Clifford Adoptante looked good but he
hit a tuff bloc twice that messed up his run. Bartram scored 92.5,
Nate Adams was a close second with 92.0.

It's confirmed (kinda), Chad Reed is
has made a deal with Yamaha to ride for the factory full time in 2003.
It's not surprising that the 2003 silly season would start in March,
especially with a hot property like Reed to grab.

Honda's lineup for the outdoor nationals:
Combined with Amsoil/FC, Honda will have
CR250s: RC and Tortelli
CRF450Rs: LaRocco
and
Ramsey
CR125s: Ernesto Fonseca,
Travis Preston, Chris Gosselaar,
and
Michael Byrne.
According to Honda's racing boss Chuck Miller,
"That gives us 4 strong guys in the 250 class and 4 strong guys in the 125
class, we are ready to go racing."

PR from CCE: AURORA, Ill. (March 28,
2002) - Clear Channel Entertainment's motor sports
division today announced that more than 400,000 spectators attended the 2002
IFMA Freestyle Motocross winter series. The 16-event series averaged
nearly 25,000 spectators per weekend. The IFMA
exploded in growth by adding five events including
major media markets Chicago, Dallas and Pittsburgh.
Along with the new dates and cities in 2002, the next generation of
freestyle motocross riders has also emerged. Top newcomers,
Beau Bamburg, Adam Jones
and Andy Jones
have raised the bar for the sport, while veterans
Mike Jones, Kenny Bartram
and
Tommy Clowers continue to
adapt and add victories to their resume against
this new breed of rider.
As the sport continues to grow, new riders and tricks will continue to amaze
and delight the record attendance crowds. Clear Channel
Entertainment's motor sports division expects to
provide these extreme athletes with IFMA
competitions in new cities and venues in 2003 and beyond. "The 2002 winter
series was a success beyond anyone's expectations," said
Dan Krolczyk, senior director of marketing Clear Channel
Entertainment. "New fans have poured into
freestyle motocross while our core fan base showed
up in major support of several new events. We're completely ecstatic
with the results, with the rider performances and with the potential
future for IFMA Freestyle Motocross. We're
looking forward to an even bigger 2002-2003
season."

No one said for sure at New Orleans, but it seems
likely so far that Travis Pastrana will
sit out Houston SX also and Suzuki will keep talking to riders about a
fill-in since both Travis and KW are out. It seems the
Eric Sourby to Pro Circuit deal is still
on.
SX 2003? It looks like the season may start in
Europe in December, and teams can decide to go for the world championship (2
Euro and 16 US rounds) or they can just race US for the US title, starting
at Anaheim. It may be confusing if there are two champs but it solves
some other problems.

DV is on his way to France to see his
Dr and will be back for New Orleans and will again ride practice and see how
it goes. For the record, he really wanted to
ride Saturday at Daytona and it was very hard for him not to. At least he
rode practice and gave it a shot. He only pulled out when he had to.
The good news is there doesn't seem to be any rotator cuff damage in
his shoulder, which was discussed Saturday and they just didn't know at the
time. What he has seems to be bruising and inflammation.
RC said after the
supercross at Daytona that he won't race a CRF450R in the nationals, even
though he likes the bike a lot and its fast. If he wins the title
again at Binghamton and he has nothing to loose for Steel City its a
possibility, or the 125 class again!
News that isn't announced yet Dept:
-Chet Burks will produce the outdoor
nationals TV broadcasts for ESPN.
-The supercross war is pretty much over and the AMA and CCE will announce
things will be like they always were. The AMA won't be adding "AMA

sanction the races and CCE will pay a fee for it.

Stolen #1 quad.
You can imagine what kind of equipment it takes to run
a title-defending GNCC ATV team-a quad, spare parts, tools, equipment, gear,
all in a shop trailer. After Okeechobee, someone at
Bill Balance's hotel hooked up to the
trailer hitch and stole his whole rig. Number 24's ATV was in it too.
What kind of low-life-scum-slime-fungus-dungpile would deliberately wreck
someone's race team just to grab the goods? They should catch them and
tie them to a pole on downtown mainstreet in Daytona and let the bikers beat
the life out f them-sheesh. Anyway, watch Mototalk for the latest.
There is a $5,000 reward.

A note on an insignificant web site message board that
lacks credibility asked the question what is wrong with MX journalism?
The writer wants more hard news, whatever. The simple reason is there
are very few people getting paid to write, and this hard news just doesn't
sell as well as race reports. It's economics, simple as that.
Magazines won't use hard news unless it is exclusive. Race reports
don't have to be. No one is making it as a freelancer sending out hard
news.

Daytona/Florida Notes:
DV is feeling ok
and flying in today. The fuss over what happened Monday was dumb.
Travis was still having a flu bug and
rested this week. Emig is riding
the
Okeechobee GNCC
on a Team Green Kawasaki. The Daytona SX 125 class is shaping up to be
a classic preview of the outdoor season. We get to see if
Reed can whip the competition outdoors like
he has the last three races, or if Brown
and Langston have anything for him, and
if anyone else (Ward) does too!
RC on CRF450R at Glen Helen? He is
thinking about it, maybe even Millville. As you know one of the
reasons he mentioned in his switch to Honda was the technology, and the
4-stroke possibility. Honda isn't pushing it on him, but he is
checking it out, so are Ernie (looked
faster on it) and Tortelii. If
there are tracks RC was getting pulled by 4-strokes like
Ferry's Yamaha last season, he has the
option.
Contrary to
what you may have heard, Suzuki is not working on a 4-stroke RM for release
in 2003. They need to wait and see what happens with the Kawasaki
partnership first.

To touch base on the client focus of this message board, one would

KTM's Brock Sellards
wanted to try another GNCC at Okeechobee next Tuesday, but dragged his foot
while practicing in California and an MRI revealed a torn MCL. He will
have surgery and should be back by Houston. Sellards raced the last
GNCC at High Point last year but had to pull off with a damaged rear tire.
