TFS World Headquarters TFS Regular Surf Stops
The new TFS e-mag Empire "Logo of the Millenium" was designed, produced, saved, and e-mailed by the one-and-only Chris Tedesco, smpmxracer@aol.com, who will now be showered with e-mail requests for more. Check out his site at www.dirtrider.net/mxro. |
NEWS: In case you missed it, Dorina Groves from Chaparral reports the bidding for the way cool Charity Golf Tournament May 10 has moved to the Glen Helen Raceway's site at www.glenhelen.com. To get to the place where you bid on a team to join click on the "Interactive" link on the upper right. Warning; If you want to drive Tortelli's cart, you have to outbid Sondra - good luck! This is the last night for the National Arenacross series. The final round is in Reno, where they will have awards tomorrow at a banquet or something. Unless Tonya Harding has been hired for Snoop's pitboard, Budman should win his fourth Arenacross title. Gary Kidd has been bustin it to get more and better photos out after each event. If you haven't cruised their photos, you should check them out at www.arenacross.com. DC's Racerhead this friday is again a must-read (VERY funny, DC). If you have had difficulty navigating the AMA's site for results (am I the only one?), life is easier. They have a URL just for you - www.amaproracing.com. Also if you are in the writing business, let's get the outdoor series name right - according to AMA, its the "AMA/Chevy Trucks U.S. Motocross Championships." We have more than a few Motonews regulars who like to follow progress in digital cameras, which are rapidly approaching the quality needed to newsprint, but not for glossy magazines. TFS emag 2000 photos (and the Cycle News report for the Houston SX) this year have all been done with the Olympus C2500, which didn't survive the unscheduled impact with Casey Lytle and his FMF Honda last weekend. It's going back to Olympus for "warranty" (hehe). The substitute digicam will be a Nikon Coolpix 950, and a few extra gadgets. Ryan Mahoney at www.photocross.net has been getting excellent results with his. This weekend's EA Sports Suprcross in Pontiac is again an east race. That means the winner of the last two rounds - Travis Pastrana, will be back. Series leader Brock Sellards is tired of getting second every time, and he can't afford to not go for the win. Sellards has just 8 points on Pastrana. A win is 25 points, a second 22. There are three more east events - Pontiac, New Orleans, and Joliet. The news on Jimmy Button just keeps getting better. He's going home but still has a lot of rehab to do. So far the prognosis is he can recover 100%, it will just take time. The remake of the official site for the AMA/Chevy Trucks U.S. Motocross Chamionships is just about done.
Scratch the Seattle Kingdome off the list for sure. The stadium was flattened by a demolition crew this morning. The pressure is on Yamaha's David Vuillemin tonight, and the pressure is worth $.5 million! That's the amount of the Van's Triple Crown award that goes out if a rider wins Phoenix, Minneapolis, and Las Vegas. Vuillemin won Phoenix, so that kind of narrows it down. Vuillemin will have to think hard about that $.5 million because series leader MC is undefeated at Minneapolis.
"This is MC's House" Last year's sign said "6 for 6." Net coverage of tonight's race will again be at www.pacesupercross.com, your net party central on saturday nights. The audio team has been rounding up important guests each week, which adds a lot to the broadcast. After last week's mains they had FMF's Brock Sellards up in press talking live on the web. US Airways is still flying today. Last midnight there was a strike deadline but both sides are still talking. So if you are flying in to Minneapolis for tonight's EA Sports Supercross, go for it. When it's time to go home, you are on your own (maybe). The sixth and last round of the FIM's Supercross series will he held Dec 2 at the LA Coliseum. Last year's American FIM SX round was at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena but the event faced crushing competition from college football rivalies on the same day. To help you get ready for the downtown LA event, here's a website you won't want to miss...
TJ and MC on MTV's "Loveline." Both Damon Huffman and Tim Ferry won't be racing this weekend due to injuries at St Louis. Huffman has a very sore back because he went over a high berm and hit the cement floor. Ferry chipped a bone in his thumb, but at least his rib isn't broken - it was just tweaked. A trip to a chiropractor got it tweaked back, according to Evie.
Media giants Dorna (FIM road racing) and Action Group (FIM SX/MX) have announced an agreement to cooperate more. Some details are on the press release on Mototalk, but we don't know much yet. If you haven't been to the Arenacross site lately you should check out the latest photo uploads from Gary Kidd. Gary is using a new Olympus C2500 digicam and thumbnail software.
One of our favorite Motonews regulars Chris Tedesco is building a new web site called www.Motoxcentral.com. Chris is a heavy hitter in the MX video game industry. The TFS emag 2000 has dozens of new photos today. If you saw it already, you might want to check it one more time. Most went to the 125 Racing, and 250 Racing sections. To bid on a chance to participate in the May 10 Glen Helen/Chaparral Charity Golf Tournament, you just need to hit this link to Bizway.net. A lot of spots have bids on them already, it's pretty cool - check it out!
Hey What's up?
According to Denny Harwig, Tim Ferry broke both his thumb and a rib at St Louis - Dang - another one bites the dust. Damon Huffman went high over a berm and hit the cement floor, and had to go have his back checked out. It is bruised, but he is OK. St Louis - MC is still "The King," and Pastrana's status as legend completes another chapter. The story of the evening at St Louis was: Would last week's winner's of the difficult Daytona event carry their momentum back to the tighter indoor tracks? MC has his hands full with a very motivated and very powerful challenge from RC in their heat race at St Louis, but he landed on top and ran off with the main, leaving RC with third behind David Vuillemin. The happiest 16-year old on the planet went from seventh to second, then passed the leader Brock Sellards for his first indoor supercross win. Travis hauled ass, did tricks, and won over the crowd. He even hugged his mom - jeeez. He made sure the St Louis crowd would remember him in an evening full of heel-clickers and "Indian Air" leaps in sections where he almost didn't have enough room to pull off the stunts. He said the boss Roger D can handle them as long as he keeps it on the track.
Tonight is the St Louis EA Sports Supercross, round #10 of 16. St Louis was the site of last year's 125 east thriller when Kelly Smith almost won, but Fonseca came from behind and passed him over a triple. He also made contact and knocked Smith down. It almost turned into a brawl! RC and Pastrana will certainly be on a high from their big wins at Daytona. Bogard won the Boise Arenacross, both classes Friday. Snoop and Budman went 3-2 and 2-3, or something like that, both got the same points. There is a new photo report just for RC on the emag 2000, you won't want to miss this one. DC's Racerhead this week talks about the significance of RC's win at Daytona. Surf report: In case you missed it - there is a lot to read out there in the surf...
Pastrana again at St Louis! This weekend is another east EA Sports Supercross, so we have another chance to see last weekend's first-time winner Travis Pastrana ride again. As you know there is plenty of talent in the 125 east, but so far Travis has managed to make each round even more interesting.
Remember "Emig-Os?" Mnews regulars will remember back in 1997 at Steel City when Adam Barker was on the scene taping for the movie "Fresno Smooth." The movie didn't get released as planned, but now its out as Frezno Smooth, the director's cut. You can find all you need to know from their web site, www.freznosmooth.com. So what's the deal with this flick? It's a full-length crazy jumping video with more plot and less stunts. It's a blast, but it's not for everyone. A good rule of thumb for this one would be don't show it to your kids, and don't show it to your parents! You know what I mean. I thought it was a lot of fun. Motonews will have a first hand account of the Australian 500 GP thanks to our own regular Motodude (Paul Brenchley).
A very rough sneak preview of the official web site for the Chevy Trucks outdoor nationals is coming together. The finished version will have more history and track info, including maps. Michelle Griffith talked to Jimmy Button's mom Anita about MC and Kim's trip to Arizona this weekend to see Jimmy. She said visits from his racing friends really help a lot and he stood up on his own for about 20 minutes. His rate of recovery is remarkable. Today was a big day for PACE and it's Formula USA road racing. They held their first road race today at Daytona today. A fired up Denny Stephenson bounced back Saturday night at the Salt Lake City Arenacross. He won both mains and the Dash for Cash. Gary Kidd from the Arenacross series got cool thumbnails up from this weekend's racing. If you go to www.arenacross.com and look at photos from Salt Lake City, you can get some coffee and sit a while. He was burning up his modem all weekend uploading.
Gary sent more photos, but we have to run the most important one first. Here is Miss Arenacross Michelle and her friend Karyn.
MC will be jetting off to Arizona on the off weekend to see his good friend Jimmy Button, who is still improving rapidly. Check out DC's latest Racerhead, it looks like the race in Florida is giving the coolest magazine the cold shoulder again. I guess we just stay home and watch it on Cycle News' Virtual Grandstand. The TFS e-mag has a killer surprise report in the works for next weekend...
So far the home office at PACE Motor Sports has been quiet about the purchase of their parent company, SFX by another company, Clear Channel Communications. More photos were added to the Atlanta emag 2000 race report, so if you browsed it during the weekend you might want to hit it again for the latest. Steve G's pic of the week over on Motodrive is a near bar-dragger, check it out! Here's an 800-pixel wallpaper photo of Jason Thomas, the iron man who tries for both 125 and 250 classes at the Supercrosses.
(Special thanks to Steve G for the cool new graphics!)
