From Jwag on the Wisp GNCC:  "Rodney Smith won the race over Mike Lafferty and Fred Andrews, but the real story involves series points leader and all-around nice guy Jason Raines crashing and breaking his leg. No reports yet on the severity of the injury, but Jason seemed to be in a lot of pain as he was being taken from the track. That's really sad news for a racer who was just getting into the spotlight."

Coppins hit with dumb technicality:  As if GPs didn't have enough trouble already, they suspended a top 250 rider because his hay fever medicine tripped a drug test.  Sheesh.  From www.motogp.com:  "Current 250cc World Championship number two Josh Coppins failed a doping test at the Grand Prix of Austria two weeks ago where he finished in third place.   According to an FIM press release the New Zealander submitted a urine sample that was found not in accordance with the rules; it contained a concentration of 157 micrograms/ml of pseudo-ephedrine (cut-off level: 25 micrograms/ml) and a concentration of 7.4 micrograms/ml of cathine (cut-off level: 5 micrograms/ml). The 25 year old ingested a tablet for hay fever prior to the Grand Prix.   Another press release issued by the Vismara Honda team this morning states that the Italian squad are ´surprised´ by the news and have subsequently suspended Coppins from racing until the matter is cleared up by the International jury in a few days."

Here is what DC wrote in Racerhead last Friday"  "Here’s a wild guess on Jeremy in 2003: He signs with Suzuki soon, and Larry Brooks offers to immediately step in as the Team SoBe Suzuki and Blimpie/Suzuki manager for the rest of the outdoor nationals, then goes back to running MC’s team in ‘03. In case you haven’t heard, Roger DeCoster missed the Budds Creek race with a bleeding ulcer and might be out for the rest of the summer — first Windham, then Travis, now The Man! Brooks isn’t doing anything this summer, and would learn quickly how to run and work with American Suzuki.... But that’s just a guess."

DC's wild guess may be more than just a guess!  That one is making it's way in the rumor mill already.

Racer X has an excellent update on who is doing what right here.

Only one of the three Butler Brothers will make it too Loretta's.  Karsten Butler is the last one not injured and will race 125 Pro Sport and 250A, Branden and Forrest are out.

Pichon set the fastest lap in qualification for this weekend's GP in Bulgaria.  This was his 6th pole position in a row.

From Ryan Mahoney, who is shooting the Mammoth MX:  "  A new cover pic at www.photocross.net from the 2002 Mammoth MX features Pro Racer and Mammoth MX local Pat Foster sailing in the clouds on his new KTM 520.  Mammoth Motocross started it's official practice day on Thursday 6/20 with record breaking numbers of riders tearing it up. Some rocky sections were sifted and large rocks as big as trucks (once exposed) were also removed. This year is bigger than ever with entries selling out much earlier than ever before. A regular to Mammoth, Steve Lamson and local legend David Barrett were there testing and enjoying the great track conditions. This coming weekend will feature The Over The Hill Gang Racing and then more practice till next Wednesday 6/26 with the official Mammoth Motocross Race getting underway on Thursday 6/27 till Sunday 6/30. Jeremy McGrath is expected to start practice as soon as this Sunday 6/23. Photocross.Net is proud to be a sponsor for the 35th Annual Mammoth Motocross. What's the latest in what bike MC will race in 2003?  Kawasaki rumor is fading, Suzuki picking up steam.  Still talking with Yamaha.  MC would be welcome by Suzuki folks in the states, but Japan remembers 1997.  Maybe he should go visit them and shake some hands.
