TFS World Headquarters TFS Regular Surf Stops
The new TFS e-mag Empire "Logo of the Millenium" was designed, produced, saved, and e-mailed by the one-and-only Chris Tedesco, who will now be showered with e-mail requests for more. Check out his site at Motoxcentral. |
NEWS:
Stefy Bau almost made it to Sunday's qualifiers at Washougal. She missed it by one spot. Here she is with two friends with www.mxgirls.com t-shirts. Tim Clark from the US Open wants you to know there is a killer deal on travel packages for the world's richest motorcycle race. Click the link on the left column to see the flyer full-size.
It was good to see the Strategic Three Racing rig back at Washougal. Phil Lawrence was racing but had a tough day - no points. They plan on going to the last three nationals, and returning next year with Australian Michael Byrne and probably one other rider for 125 west Supercross. Team sponsor www.theedgesports.com wants to have a presence at all the events so the 125 guy(s) will ride 250s in east Supercross, then 125 outdoors.
Pichon's bid for the 250 world motocross title just went to hell this weekend. He was injured, but even worse his dad was involved in another "Sluggo" incident and he has been suspended. The news is on www.mxlarge.com.
Got Dirt? Carmichael and Travis both tied in points for the day with Vuillemin and Roncada, but each won their second motos for the overall. Button was here and looks good. Put Roncada on your
green list for 2001, he's going to be RC's
teammate on 250s next year. McGrath will be in the Yamaha semi with Vuillemin. That should be interesting! The Windham to Suzuki rumors are hot and heavy, so far people who know have been holding back. More lies and rumors will be out tomorrow after Washougal. Here's freestyler Trevor Vines at Ride and Slide, see also www.bluetorch.com.
(Giberson photo, www.motodrive.com )
Deegan won! (Giberson photo, www.motodrive.com ) When you pick up your new Cannondale next year, look for this label. Photo by Chris "I got it" Williams.
You can get info on the 2000 Motocross des Nations from the official MXdN site, click here. You can even find a cool photo where you can view the track in 360 degress for a "panoramique du milieu de la piste." (I hope I just didn't post some French cuss words or anything). Cyclelogic's Engine Ice coolant is now going to be put in all new Cobra motorcycles. Here is the press release. Major bummer section: Denise Conroy-Galley, of the newly formed PR empire Traction Enterprises, reports Broc Hepler will miss Loretta's due to a broken arm. More rumors and lies: Chiodi to join US Honda? French TFS at www.BlockPass.com has been doing his own web surfing and snooping, and has a real good summary of the silly season from both here and the GPs. We should know this week if McGrath will ride a Yamaha in 2001 for his own team, or just pile in the Yamaha big rig with Vuillemin and whoever else might be in it by then. That would be quite a powerhouse if MC and his strongest challenger were both in the blue team pits. It makes sense for him to hitch a ride though, who wants to buy a big rig and have the added overhead for just 5 months of travel?
For more info about Albee, check out this link that Mototalker motodirthead left http://news.motorcycle.com/964639964.
Bill's Pipes Suzuki rider Robbie Horton has been having some unusual health problems after the races. He's getting some tests done, but might miss some races. Bummer. Former world GP champ Bob Moore has teamed up with Global Sports Marketing's Bob Walker to form a new organization for injured riders called "The Road 2 Recovery Foundation." Here is their press release.
Motochic and Todd's excellent adventure. Motochic's race report is on Mototalk. The line to get into Kenworthy's Troy national was long even at 8:30am. They had a record crowd, about 20,700. The photo on the right is Jesseman's mom looking at the MX East issue than ran the article Motochic and Todd did about Branden with an "e." Who took that picture of him at Joliet? (haha) Here's what OGGI had to say about Metzger after his crash at the Gravity Games: Freestyler Trevor Vines just hooked up with Cyclelogic to pimp Engine Ice. Here's the press release.
Photos of Stefan Everts on the 2001 Husqvarna are in. Here is the link. Roncada already has the .mpg of the Carey Hart backflip on www.ronronmx.com.
Tedesco called press at Troy to report Carey Hart did a back flip at the Gravity Games in Rhode Island! RC took the points lead back at Troy, while Tortelli suffered a tweaked ankle. Windham chased RC both motos but didn't ever make a pass. Roncada had a crash fest and was 11th both motos, banging his knee and his elbow. Sellards roosted and won both motos. Silly season rumors are flying! Here are some rumors, lies, and facts to get me in trouble. -McGrath: He won't have a teammate, and he will be an a Yamaha. The No Fear deal is not set in stone yet, expect a possible alternate. Check DC's Racerhead Friday for more details. -A major shakeup is happening in the factory ranks. People on the likely out list include Dowd (might race a Cannondale next year!), Ward, Huffman, and Reynard. -The Suzuki deal with Windham is not firm yet, no contract, no agreement as of today. -Brown is coming to the US, a deal with Pro Circuit is likely but KTM wants him too. Vohland might go back to Europe. -Fast GP guy Langston will be in the US, Smets won't. -The possible Factory Connection team using FMF stuff is looking very likely. -Kawasaki might grab Ferry, since they will have some room. They also want Roncada. -Yamaha wants Roncada to ride the 250 four stroke. Roncada has a lot of options since he is red hot, and he can do whatever he wants! Shooting went well at Troy, piles of photos will be on the TFS emag very late tonight. "Welcome to Ohio"
Sign on hotel ice machine at TFS weekend headquarters in Dayton, Ohio - "Out of Order" I'm not making this up! The racing is always good at Troy. It's a track where anything can happen - Huffman roosted RC in both motos on a 125 in 1997, Roncada exploded in one moto in 1999, and on the same day Doug Henry saw a pit board message from Craig Monte that said "Do you want it?" and he proved that he did. Still the TFS emag is facinated by how many things remain broken in this fine state. It's real! I'm not making this up! The weather should be great for the national tomorrow - no scorcher. Geoff Meyer reports on Speedvision.com that Albee is retiring after next season. Bummer! Albee is one of the truly nicest people in racing. Let's hope he sticks around.
Photo credits: Chris Tedesco and Raymond Gundy pitched in on the emag photos for Unadilla. These spread to FMF Racing's site, MXNationals, and Racerhead. We got the stash all mixed up! If you want to know all about the US Open, the man to talk to is Eric Perronard. Here is an interview where he talks about the unique event, and all that. One of the PACE FMX judges for the freestyle series (www.pacefmx.com) will again be long-time Motonews regular Bauer. Bauer will be doing the three Vans Triple Crown events. One of the regular judges will be Guy Cooper! Rupert "No Electricity" X reports weather is great this weekend for Troy's national, round 8. That is good news, when its hot there its brutal. One year at least one 125 rider had to get a helicopter ride out to a hospital due to the heat. Trevor Vines, a Freestyle Motocross rider who finished 2nd in the 99' PACE International Freestyle Motocross series and is currently in Rhode Island competing at the 2000 Summer Gravity Games has recently accepted an offer from Pro Honda Oils & Chemicals to use and endorse their products>>>MORE Here's a moto site to check out: www.motoracing.com. This site is "All That" for motocross in Indiana. Scroll down and look at Ryno's Pit Notes. The guy who writes it looks a lot like Ryan Marshall, the PR Manager for EA Sports Supercross. Here are press releases from Dorina about Trevor Vines and Freestyle MX, and news from Honda about their "Ride for Kids" and their busy weekend racing.
Fooling around at the Nationals, dept:
If you want to check in on women's motocross, don't miss Debbie Matthews web site, www.dmsports-wsmx.com. It rules! There is info about riding schools and racing. Don't miss out on this week's print Cycle News. It will have the first digital cover (I think) from US Outdoor Nationals. Live from the Gravity Games, it's Motoxcentral! This week you can follow the Gravity Games in Providence RI on www.motoxcentral.com. Chris Tedesco and OGGI are there. Here is link to the first photos... Garvity Games Preview
It's a good thing Unadilla is on a farm. The tractor had to get the Yamaha transporter out of the pit mud.
The tractor was pretty busy after the national. Find out who will be on Team USA at the MXdN, (and it's not who you think), and what's going on with that rumored team MC is forming for next year, and what team might be in or out for 2001, and what's up with DV, and more on "Rumors, Lies and Maybe a fact or Two from Unadilla," right here on the TFS emag 2000.
Only RC could stop a second French sweep at the Nationals. Now with five rounds left and KW and DV dropping back a little, the national title is looking like a two-man sprint between two worthy rivals, Tortelli and Carmichael.
"Olive Whah you Americans, next weekend I will taunt you another time..." Who did Roncada have to worry about messing up his recent RC-style sweep in the nationals? KTM's French guy Rodrig Thain! He led most of moto two after his holeshot, and Ronron and Pastrana both couldn't catch him unitl his bike started crapping out. Thain won the "Prince of Bercy" at the last Paris Supercross race/party, but so far his move the the US hasn't been that exciting. Carmichael Saves America! RC: 2-1 Tortelli 1-2, both were very impressive at Unadilla. After Undilla, RC and Tortelli have command of the 250 points, Windham went 4-6, Vuillemin 5-7 (broke pipe moto 2). Albee rebounded with a 3-4. In 125 racing, Roncada was simply another RC. He completely dominated both motos and no one was close, well maybe Pastrana, who said he would go home and watch the videos and figure out why Roncada is faster. More is on MXNationals.com right now, and much more will be on the TFS emag 2000 very late tonight.
A non-French RC won at Unadilla.
Roncada is still French, and has won 6 motos in a row.
Lamy made the cover of the new Racer X! News from Dilla: Kawasaki and Suzuki guys opted to skip Saturday's practice due to the mud. Tortelli, Vuillemen, and Roncada all rode and looked fast. Stefy Bau got the holeshot in her qualifier! She tangled with another rider and had to ride the consi, where she missed making Sunday's racing by a few spots. Skaggs is here on his Motoworld of El Cajon Yamaha. He is back in the Dunlop pits with his grandfather. Media turnout here is very good. Plenty of regulars are here and International press as well. It's a popular race to cover.
DC throws out some major rumorage for this years silly season, round 1. Check out Racerhead on www.racerxill.com. So far weather for Unadilla looks like a possible mud day. I guess it wouldn't be Dilla without a little rain. Lat year's Unadilla top five: 1) LaRocco, 2) Albee, 3) Windham, 4)
Reynard, 5) Button. PR whiz Dorina Groves announced today she will be handling the PR for excellent Freestyler Trevor Vines. So you think your last crash sucked? Here's a cut and paste from Mike Leiby about his injuries from his crash in Japan: Look for the Cannondale squad to return to the AMA/Chevy Trucks U.S. Motocross Championships at Troy, July 23. Both Keith Johnson and fast Arenacross guy Jeff Gibson should be there. Gibson really likes the bike's power and suspension. He says he can ride long motos on it all day. His web site is www.jeffgibson275.homepage.com. They also have two invitations to the 4-stroke race at the US Open in October. Unless something changes, still no Lusk at Unadilla this weekend. He needs another week to heal. Net regular Scottyb reports the new carb design from PSI Performance you saw on the emag 2000 Red Bud Photos section will be back on Kyle Lewis' bike at Unadilla. Scotty says he will be at Loretta's with the new gadget, known as "The Big Air." (Scroll down to July 7 for a photo too). Dud rumor department: Someone was spreading a rumor MC hurt himself practicing stunts. If so, his sister Tracy didn't hear about it. He is in Brasil doing a video right now.
Next January: Three Anaheim Supercrosses. This year both sold out (about 45,000). The AMA has a cool new web starting place they are calling a "portal." The idea is everything you need starts on the same site. It's at www.amaconnect.com. Their's is a lot fancier that mine. I was thinking something like that when this part of Motonews was done, check out www.motonews.com/tfs. I guess it will need an update. Have you been checking outdoor defending champion Albee's web site? If not, here it is, www.albee1.com. This weekend's national at Unadilla is hard to call. Here's the top ten in points after six rounds, and their chances of winning this weekend: Tortelli - Good pick, he won
all-out battles with RC and KW at Red Bud.
No luck! Just when Arenacross fast guy Jimmy Wilson was getting over his injury from Southwick, he is now out with a broken arm that will pretty much wipe out his outdoor season. Bummer. You see it in Cycle News, it was featured in the last Team Green News, you saw it last Christmas in this photo feature on Alabama's Monster Mountain. Gary Blackwell's mega-track and big facility are just what that area needed to give the motocross business a shot in the arm. Gary also reports the Bomber himself Mark Barnett has just purchased some land nearby and probably will spend more time in-state, maybe to start a race school. Joel Smets continued his domination of the 500 GP wars with a 1-1 at Culham, Great Britain. He has now won 15 out of 20 motos!
Darryll King got fifth (Geukens photo)
TFS emag 2000 has an exclusive interview with Larry Ward by the AMA's Jim Kimball. The US Open is Oct 14 and 15! Don't miss out! Click on the travel package flyer for a larger version. Dale Spangler from Smith Powersports reports they have a Red Bud race report up on www.smithsport.com, click Team News, then Powersports and then In the News. Some French guy won the 250 class with Smith goggles or something. PACE Motor Sports has released the 2001 EA Sport Supercross Series schedule, here it is: January 6 Edison International Field (Anaheim, Calif.) Cyclelogic has announced the addition of Dorina Groves to it's PR machine, check here. The TFS emag 2000 has 16 wallpaper images from Red Bud, here's the linky. Here's what Honda had to say about Tortelli's win at Red Bud. Its was Honda's first outdoor win this year.
In case you missed it - Here's a press release from Honda's PR office about the tragic death of the Isle of Man record holder: Record-holding Isle of Man TT race winner Joey
Dunlop was killed during an According to the latest update from Jimmy Button's mom Anita, his recovery is still doing well. He may even get back on a bike by January! He was released from rehab in Arizona June 23 and is now back in California. His therapist hopes to have him back to normal in 4 months. There is more GP news on TFS emag 2000. The press release from Corona Suzuki even has all the lap charts on it. Photo credit for that Japanese national mud race (6/29/00) goes to Mike Lieby, who is there for the U.S. Army and races Vet Expert. RupX forwarded the photo and said Lieby was injured in a practice crash. Here's hoping he is doing OK. There is more interesting stuff happening witht he GP format changes. www.mxlarge.com has a report from an Action Group press conference which says they are canning the 40 minute moto for an 18-lap moto rule, unless the thing runs 45 minutes then they stop. Also MXLarge reports Action Group will be taken over by the broadcast giant Dorna.
This is "Buy a Supercross CD Week!" You can get 1,300 TFS images on the CD that is available on www.SupercrossCD.com. The thing is way cheap and has plenty of race action, babes, pits, extras, the PACE Banquet and plenty of photos that didn't make it on the emag 2000. Some software problem unrelated to this weekend's virus attack on the official TFS laptop made the first photos out this weekend look like crap. They weren't compressed right so they are being re-done.
Finally. Honda is on the map. Tortelli's 1-1 was convincing.
Stephane "Where's my Limo" Roncada!
They just find me. (Michelle Stephenson and Heather Broderick, the new Team Rooster hunni) Today is Round 6 of the AMA/Chevy Trucks U.S. Motocross Championships at Red Bud! LaRocco's Leap! Former PACE Motor Sports PR wag Pat Schutte is scheduled to shoot photos for DC, and our guest spectator/photohound is Steve Densmore. Race results this weekend should be pretty fast, Red Bud has a cool press area and an extra phone line. Look for early updates here and on www.MXNationals.com.
Red Bud spectators! Thanks to Dr Sondra and Michelle Griffith a major emag disaster was averted this weekend. The emag 2000 laptop, which also holds MXNationals.com, freaked out saturday night and wouldn't stay logged on. Since the laptop is just a week old, the decision was made to go back to Best Buy in Pittsburgh and throw it across the counter. This wouldn't help sending out Red Bud photos, so it looked like a shutout was inevitable. As it turns out I got the MINE.EXE virus, which stops you when you are logging on to AOL and asks for your password. It edits a couple of system files, prevents you from logging on, and emails your keystrokes to the slacker who wants to steal your password. Also it won't let the computer shut down windows. The new PC had an 'Install AOL" feature, so I had to reinstall for each logon to go around the problem. Sondra was on line and knew what it was and sent a message. Michelle sent a link to a fix, so all is well. So...beware if anyone inadvertently forwards you a file called mine.exe. back to racing...
TFS emag again says hello and get well soon to Denise Conroy-Galley, who worked press here last year. This time she is recovering from the nasty mountain bike crash - ouch! A new face appeared in the Kawasaki pits at Southwick. Working on Ward's bike was Billy Pelts, who has raced BMX, Speedway, and MX with Team Green. Then he raced sprints (something with four wheels), but he has been with Kawasaki for quite a while. He used to race Ward in the old days and was Emig's roomie until recently. Motodude took these shots of the new Yamaha YZ250F at the Yamaha Race of Champions day. Cannondale is still tinkering with the new bike. Don't look for them at Red Bud this weekend.
