Tortelli hurt his knee in a heat race
crash at A3, and during the main it was too weak. He had it checked out and
there are injured ligaments that require surgery. We don't
have a surgery date yet, but he will be out for the rest of SX and hopes to
be ready by Glen Helen. That really sucks because his work with RJ was
starting to pay off.
That means Sobe Suzuki once again has
two 250 riders out at the same time, but at least this time they have a
third, Stephan Roncada, who did really
well at A3, with a 6th. Roncada will be staying on a 250 for the rest of
supercross.

DV with ice on his
shoulder after a heat race crash with Lusk
at A3. DV went to France this week to have his shoulder looked at by
his favorite doctor. Thanks to Stephan
LeGrand at
www.mxgeneration.com for the news. (DV quote: "That photo
blows!")

At least we know French guys can flat track.
Thursday, Team Sobe Suzuki
is going to El Centro California to spend a morning with the Blue
Angels fighter jet stunt team.
Grant Langston is
having his knee surgery today. He hurt it Friday at A3 and didn't even
fall, he just caught it in a turn and blew it out.
Tortelli's knee is still under review,
we will know sometime this week.

A3 was finally an RC/Reed
showdown, and it came down to the wire with RC winning it. Reed was
closing in at the end and both made a few mistakes. Much of the track
was very flat and hard-packed and it was hard on tires. DV was
third. Byrne led 8 laps and looked
really good. RC was patient and took his time making his move.
Pichon crashed out of the first lap.
LaRocco and
Tortelli crashed out in the middle of the main.
Ferry didn't finish either.
Langston hurt his knee Friday and was
going to skip Saturday, but he went out for his heat race and got even more
banged up. Reed had made every heat race this season a thriller.
This time he and LaRocco went at it in a heat race and LaRocco pinned the
outside of a turn and sent Reed over the bars. They both got right back up
and Reed still won the heat. Langston and Tortelli will both be
getting knee MRIs done.

Bubba is totally
on a roll, winning his 4th straight and he still makes it look easy.
Preston charged from midpack to second,
getting by Sorby who made his first
podium this year. Walker was 4th.
Chris Gossellar crashed out. Bubba
told the press conference that his next Anaheim race will be on a 250.

Racing:
Friday Practice news and
photos for A3 are here. Lots of interesting things are happening.
MC rode practice because he is doing a
hot lap for the show opening. Ferry
is switching to a two stroke, but so are Povolnly
and Travis Elliott.
Pichon rode practice and looks good.
All the fast people looked fast in practice, but DV
seemed to stand out. The split track section is in and makes an
interesting change.

Bob Moore is no

MX GP champion Mickael Pichon
has been testing at Suzuki's test track and is pre-entered for Anaheim 3 as
#904. Reportedly he has done some fast laps but got arm pump. So far
the most reliable report is he is in for this weekend at Anaheim 3.
This should be good.

James Povolny has
left the Subway Racing team as of last night, based on a mutual agreement
with the team owner. He will be on his own this weekend and the Subway
team is talking to replacements. Ted Campbell
will sit out this weekend and is doing OK after his scary crash and
concussion at San Francisco.

The spilt track for A3 has generated a lot of talk,
but for the record-the split part will not be used at the start, only after
the first lap.

RC won the first
ever SX at Pac Bell Park in San Francisco, extending his series lead over
Reed and he even got a warm reception
from the crowd. The booing went to Vuillemin
who won a hard-fought heat race with Reed and Lusk.
Again the 250 heat races (at least the one with DV, Lusk and Reed) were some
of the best racing. DV caught hell from the crowd over a controversy
over what was OK to jump and what wasn't while Subway Racing's
Ted Campbell was on the ground in the
middle of the track getting medical help. Campbell had a concussion
and was shaking as if in shock, but he should be OK.
RC patiently followed Roncada
for 5 laps before making a pass for the lead and he was cruising, except
late in the main Reed was charging hard and gaining.
Lusk got nailed in some mayhem on the
way to the first turn and had to charge from last. All of Team Yamaha
got crappy starts but they charged to get 2nd, 3rd, and 4th,

Bubba was on his
own level in the 125 main, easily lapping half the field and leaving the
racing to Pro Circuit and Amsoil/FC/Chaparral Honda. There was even a
4-way battle for second, with still another knockdown incident between the
teams resulting in Matt Walker getting
the boos. Sheesh, tough crowd. Walker was fined $1,000 for a
pass on Travis Preston just before the
finish double when he moved over to take Preston's line away and Preston hit
the finish sign post and fell. Walker mentioned the word "payback" on
the podium, and supposedly the AMA took that as proof the move was
intentional and endangering Preston by forcing him into a metal post.
Larry Brooks will
replace Ron Heben as manager of KTM's
motocross team. KTM will probably announce it next week. Brooks
was MC's manager at McGrath Racing, and before that he ran the Chaparral
team. McGrath Racing is closing the doors for now. Brooks was
added to replace Heben, and MC wanted to be part of this so he will be with
KTM as a test consultant.
Tonight is the first supercross at Pac Bell Park in
San Francisco. The track got built a day later than usual but its
ready, and the weather is great. Should be a good one. You know

Friday night
minibike racing at Anaheim 2!
Rob Buydos
from Parts Unlimited organized an awesome minibike event that was run
after practice Friday at Anaheim 2. There were two classes, 50s
and bigger bikes. Races were held on an easy section of the
supercross track and CCE people stuck around to maintain the track and
watch over everything (thanks!).
Carey Hart
battled hard in both 50 motos for second. His girlfriend
Pink was there
with he pink 50 but didn't race, even though she made a couple of laps
after it was over.
The bigger mini class had
about 30 entries, including announcers
Jamie Little and
Terry Boyd,
Mike Hathaway
(CCE guy), Jordon Burns
of Strung Out, Byron
of Pennywise, Team Green's Craig Martin
(on a way tricked out cheater 110),
Buydos, and
TFS.
The thing was all about fun
and Buydos made sure people didn't take it too serious and get hurt,
even though TFS got knocked around like
Travis on no one booed! Sheesh.
Overall it was a blast.
It was one of those races where you just give a long stare at the person
next to you on a straight and go "ARrrgghhhh!" |

Travis Preston was sick and skipped Friday practice. The

*Side Notes: Out of the 15 riders that were injured last weekend at

Bogard will continue rehabing his knee and getting another checkup

sustained at Guthrie. Jeff Willoh was back on the track as well after
his injuries from last weekend and riding very fast. Phil Lawrence will
continue rehabing his knee at home again this week, as well as Gavin
Grayck also. Brad Hagseth will make his return to Arenacross after
suffering a collarbone fx in a practice crash back in December. Rusty
Holland stayed home to continue therapy on his hip and should return to

Kawasaki came out on top of both classes in another
exciting night of supercross. Bubba
passed Steve Mertens,
Matt Walker and
Craig Anderson to win the 125 main.
Travis Preston charged hard behind him

before the finish jump. On the podium, Bubba surprised everyone with a

Bubba was funny,
Preston looked at him like he was nuts.
In 250 racing, the heats and main were all
action-packed, with RC and
Pastrana going at it again and both
ending up on the ground in the first heat. This time it was RC who got
ahead and fell on his own. Ferry
fell in that heat too, and Langston won
it. Lusk and
Reed totally flew in the fastest of the two heats, Reed led
much of it but Lusk passed him and won it. The main was the
Reed/Lusk heat race all over again with
RC right behind both of them. RC fell in a flat section near the first
turn and dropped to 6th. Lusk passed Reed on lap 16 and won, giving
Kawasaki its first supercross double win night since Atlanta in 1997.

Close racing all night.

Anaheim 1 press conference.
Chad Reed led
every lap of the 250 main at Anaheim 1, while RC,
Ferry
and DV got shut out of the first turn
and had to charge up. RC fell twice but still made it to second.
Ferry was third,
DV fourth. A huge
pileup claimed LaRocco, Pastrana, Byrne,
and Tedesco.
Langston crashed out and banged up his shoulder.
Pastrana hurt his groin and DNF'd too,
plus his knee has been hurting.

The talk of the night was an incident in a heat race
between RC and Pastrana that was so close to the one at Indy last year that
got RC practically booed out of the building its amazing. The boos
were just as loud, but since it was a heat race things settled down quicker.
And, just like last time-RC got a bad rap. Pastrana made enough time
on a long tough whoop section to pass RC (!!!), and RC made his move to take
the lead back by passing him on the inside and blocking his line out of the
corner. Pastrana didn't let up, collided with RC, and hit the ground.
RC got away and looked back, which is what Pastrana and his people thought
was proof it was a dirty takeout.
Travis Preston won
the 125 main after taking the lead from his fast teammate
Chris Gosselaar.
Bubba got shut out of the first turn and
had a steady charge to 2nd, but he didn't have time to catch Preston.
Unlike many of Preston's previous wins when he modestly shrugged it off as
"huh-I won?," he earned this one. He was totally on the gas and looked
like the winner every lap.

MC started his
farewell tour with the Bud Light KTM rig set up in premium pit space and a
long autograph line, and a farewell lap at the show opening. It's
going to be a long few months for him traveling for just that, but he's up
to it and fans lined up to meet him. Bud Light was on hand and seemed
happy enough with him even though he wasn't racing.

Here is an update on Isaiah Johnson
from Keith Shireman of MX SPORTS
MEDICINE: “Isaiah crashed in the 125cc Main Event in Guthrie,OK and
sustained several compression fractures to his thoracic spine and one
compression fracture to his cervical spine. I personally stayed at the ER
till 3:00 am Saturday morning and spoke with the attending physicians to get
the final prognosis. He will however have to wear a back brace until the
fractures heal. The neurosurgeons were trying to determine which fractures
were old and new pertaining to his injury. He is not paralyzed as previously
reported.”

MC's Retirement Interview
Today is the Anaheim 1 press conference, an annual big
deal with all the teams showing up for a season introduction and riding demo
for local media. MC will steal the
show at this one with news of his retirement. News about MC's talk
will be up as soon as the conference concludes. Watch
www.sxgp.com too for updates.

MC got the media's attention Thursday at Anaheim with
his retirement announcement, but they still had a press conference for the
rest. This included RC getting his
second championship ring. The ring is awesome! It has a #4 in
the center and and RC doing a flat whip on the sides.
