Engine Ice Daily News: It's Bike Week!
The Formula USA 200 Mile Challenge kicked off Bike Week at the Daytona International Speedway. (Notice Engine Ice signs)
It is confirmed that Damon Bradshaw and Larry Ward are racing Muddy Creek in Tennessee this weekend, then heading down to Florida to see what damage they can do for Bike Week. So who will win the 125 outdoor national championship? Larry Brooks says Larry Ward, on the YZ250F. "If he trains right he will win." says Brooks. You are probably tired of your wallpaper background, so there are 50 more added to the emag 2001 wallpaper section. MC's people are now selling Travis Pastrana Extreme bears. Go to www.nacnac.com to get one now!

NEMX is the brainchild of local motocross racers Mike Crosby, Dave Daylor, and Tom Lyons, and is intended to provide a superior racing experience for competitors, sponsors, and spectators alike. Another press release... Jeff Lewis has replaced Gary Becker as chairman of SFX Motor Sports. You know it, another press release.
MC is thinking, like, who are these bums? (Answer, my brother Mike and Nolan Manley, of Daleville, AL) Who was at the Atlanta SX? Here is the first Atlanta SX people page. More people, here is page 2.
RC was flawless in Atlanta's 250 main. News and photos are up on the emag 2001. Motonews photos are on 2 Japanese web sites! One is Honda's http://www.honda.co.jp/motorsports/infos/ and the other is Kawasaki's http://www.khi.co.jp/mcycle/msinfo/index.html They are in Japanese-have fun!
Extreme photohound OGGI is taking a photo or something.
Here are the new graphics for Team Moto-Ethix, which will field Hart and Cinqmars
doing exhibitions in 2001. Atlanta: 65,461 people, an Atlanta record!
Out of respect for the late Dale Earnhardt, MC raced Atlanta with black No Fear gear and this special Bell/Troy Lee helmet with #3 on it.
On the back it says, "In memory of The Intimidator." While you are waiting for Atlanta SX results, check out the next page of people at Indianapolis (mostly media). Are motocrossers the world's best athletes? Thanks to alepa, here's the link to scans of the old Cycle mag article about the fitness of motorcrossers. In case you missed it! The US Open will start Friday instead of Saturday this October, with Sunday set aside for the Arenacross Amateur World Finals! Cool huh? Budman won an exciting race in the 125 main at Friday's national Arenacross at the ARCO Arena in Sacramento. The 250 main was all Rusty Holland, from semi-local Fresno. Willoh won the dash for cash, Mason the jump contest, and our excellent reporter Ray Gundy's renta car DNF'd. We didn't get the details, but another web reporter OGGI and his bud's got a surprise when an Atlanta hotel gave them the wrong key, and when they opened the room they surprised a couple of people who were, well, doing what you do in hotels and you don't think anyone is looking.
This US Airways guy Scott Ogden flew From Pittsburgh to Atlanta with 5 other people to watch the Atlanta SX.
Let's start a rumor, dept: Looks like a possible Tyler Evans ride on a Munn Racing KTM, (maybe). If you don't have www.motorcycleusa.com on your list yet, check it out. They were at the Indy show. There is a lot to see on this site, take your time! Atlanta's dirt is too wet to have Friday practice, so Supercross pros will ride the track Saturday. Photos from the Indy trade show are still going up! Start here. Off road star Shane Watts will be using Fastway goodies, read about it here.
This weekend: Atlanta-Round 7. Read about what is going on with MC and RC on the TFS emag News from Indy special. Ray's report from the Denver full-contact Arenacross is up on the Special emag. ABC added another Supercross to the schedule, and you can listen to the Supercross announcers on you walkman and get better sound. Here's the press releases... What is 4 ft tall, weighs 48 lbs and races Supercross with #199? It's not mini-me Travis, its NW Florida's Flying Brien DeVillo, who's web site is right here. Papa DeVillo was the gate-stomper at West Florida Motocross Park (WFMP) back in TFS SX days, and our own FooFighter was the announcer. WFMP is also the home track for the WML champion, Jessica Patterson. Also in the Florida panhandle, north of Panama City, check out County Line Motocross Park, run by local pro Ricky Palmer. DC is now a big cheese with the AMA! Saturday it was announced he is a new AMA Board Corporate member, replacing Lamar Williams who resigned. Also on emag, more photos from the Indy trade show. Round #1 of the AMA Yamaha Western 4-Stroke Nationals had a record number of riders, and it will be on Speedvision Wednesday March 21 at 1:30 Pacific Time Zone. Ohio breakdown report: It never fails. Something always breaks in Ohio. For the Indy trade show trip, the Ruby Tuesday restaurant in Dayton had to cut out about half the menu because one of the coolers quit and everything spoiled. You would think a state with more hardware stores than Starbucks Coffee stores could keep things working, no? A reader sent in this link for a new track in New York.
"Mad Mike" Jones has signed with Answer, here is the press release. The TFS emag 2001 has an interview with David Vuillemin by Jim Kimball. Find out what he says about Supercross. outdoor nationals, GPs, and his parents leaving. Motonews has reported Lamson will probably ride just part of the 250 Supercross series, then some GPs. After talking to him about it at Indy, it seems the GP part is not too likely right now.

The racing world is in shock after the tragic death of NASCAR great Dale Earnhardt Sr, 49, who was killed on the last lap of the Daytona 500 when his car swerved from the inside and slammed straight into a wall.. Things got a bit wild during a weekend of Rollerball in Denver. Metcalf and Mason got into it, and so did Willoh and Lacey. Tempers flared, fists flew, and SFX/Formula USA people had to keep the peace.
What's this guy at Honda R and D taking a photo of? Find out on the TFS emag 2001 special photo section from the Indy Dealernews Expo. The Indy trade show went off big, again. Pastrana, RC, Lamy, and Ferry were on hand meeting and greeting, as well as Dowd (who hasn't ridden the KTM yet but he's looking forward to it). Series, and will be the "Presenting Title Sponsor" providing funding for

Chad Lile wanted to get a head start on getting the crowd on his side in case he decided to do the Racer X Extreme Jumpoff Contest at last weekend's Arenacross (Gundy photo).
We're not going to like start any rumors or anything, but this is real.... Lots of Indy Supercross photos are up.

Thats it! The Budman won his 100th Arenacross main event at Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Congrats! In was in Friday's 125 main. Pedro Gonzales won the 250 main and the Dash for Cash.
Indianapolis, round 6. (It's COLD!) Can MC stop RC's momentum? Both MC and RC are pushing themselves to the limits. Both want this title and they are working harder and harder every week to outdo the other. This is the greatest drama in racing we have seen in a long time. Also, Travis Pastrana returns, this time on a 125. Its going to be an exciting weekend.
The all-new Rev! RVx250 American made-two-stroke will be on display at the Indy trade show. Here's the press release. The people behind the project have a combination of consulting and automotive experience, powertrain and general powersports experience, and of course, motorcycling. Rumor has it that the Italian Motocross des Nations is in trouble! The same country that couldn't settle differences and forced a cancellation of the Italian round of the World Supercross Series is having trouble with Action Group again. They might already be looking for another place to hold the event. (Jon Beasley has a track called Budd's Creek....) It's too early to buy your ticket to Italy for the MXdN obviously, but it's not too early to start planning for this years US Open in Las Vegas, which will be bigger and better than ever! There are plans for the 4-stroke class again, featuring Damon Bradshaw, Kelley Smith, John Dowd, and maybe Larry Ward. Also, there will be an invitational amatuer 125 class (just right for Bubba Stewart), and an Arenacross on Sunday. The pros will race Friday and Saturday, Arenacross on Sunday. The SFX folks are already working hard on this one, so stay tuned to www.ussx.com. the rest of the year. His sponsor offered him the same ride for Supercross and he
has decided that it's now or never for SX. Bummer is that his hometown AX race is in
Milwaukee this weekend. He's riding both 125 and 250 doing the ironman thing. MX east cover. Bummer it didn't work out Dept.
(Intercepted kicking around web): Tyler Evans and Planet Honda have agreed to part ways as of February 5, 2001. Several recent on-track instances with the inability to find an agreeable resolution between the rider and team prompted the action. We wish this talented young rider the greatest success in his future endeavors.
Coming soon to the west coast....is he a bird? Is he a plane? No he's SUPERMAN MIKE MASON! Touring with the SFX Arenacross National series Mike gets the crowd on their feet each weekend with his bag of tricks. He's the King of the jump-off contest and has moved up over 15 positions in points since the beginning of the series. Pictures and results are at www.arenacross.com or www.motonews.com for those who can't witness in person Mikes amazing ability to crossover from racing to freestyle. Make sure you stop by Rotor Watches on Saturday or Sunday to say hello to the man who made history by pulling the first-ever Backflip on his Honda CR 250 at the 2000 Gravity Games in Providence, Rhode Island. Chain and Wheel Deal for Miller, McElroy and Distlers With continued and rapidly growing interest in Freestyle
Motocross from network television stations and non-industry corporate sponsors it has been
hard for companies whose focus has always been supercross and outdoor nationals to ignore
the exposure they are missing out on by not sponsoring freestyle riders.
VP Fuels has renewed it's support for the AMA Sanctioned 2001 DM Sports Women's
World MX Championship Series as a Contingency Money Sponsor paying all three classes 125
Pro, Open Amateur and the 60-105cc (7-15) class. This weekend's Supercross at Indy will be the first east 125 event, so Fonseca will get a break. He will stay hone and practice. Suzuki's Danny Smith is going to ride the 250 class. Greg Schnell will be an east coast guy instead of west. He can switch because he wasn't in the top 10 in the west. If the excitement in the 250 class between McGrath and Carmichael aren't enough, the 125 east will feature Travis Pastrana, who pulled out of the 250 class. "Mad Mike" Jones won the freestyle part of the Winter X Games. Check www.motoxcentral.com for news and photos. Supercross will take a one-week break after Indy. On the off weekend the Dealer News International Powersports Expo will take over downtown Indianapolis. This is the time of year all your favorite shops and suppliers get together and weigh the checkbooks. Motonews will be there hanging out with Cyclogic's Dave Kimmey in the Engine Ice booth.
Everyone is talking about RC's big win at Anaheim III and asking "Is this the end of the McGrath era?" The answer is we just don't know yet. RC is definitely up to speed on the track, and both mentally and physically he is ready to take over. But, MC isn't going to hand over the crown, RC will have to take it. Mid-season is when MC has gone on a win streak in the last couple of seasons, and usually with a few rounds to go he is firmly in control. The next five races will tell us if the Carmichael era is here. There is a lot of talk about RC (and KW) looking forward to the non-Anaheim dirt in the east, but MC wins on that same dirt every year. The tracks will probably get a little more technical. All in all, the most exciting Supercross season we have seen is just hitting high gear. With MC and RC grabbing the headlines and the points, we haven't heard much about what happens if some of the other 250 front runners shake the funk and start earning big points too. Watch the next few races to see who can get in between the top two. This may make the difference in the end.

Another Anaheim sellout, and a sizzling race.

Renthal will be releasing this special crossbar pad with a crown and "King of Supercross" on it? Want one? Watch Mototalk for details.
Carmichael again raised the bar in EA Sports Supercross with his best performance ever in the 250 class. MC took the holeshot and left RC mid-pack, an exact reverse of last weekend's main at Phoenix. RC was in second place at the halfway point. McGrath had trouble in a rhythm section and RC took advantage of it. RC leads the series by three points. Windham has his best night and even finished in sight of RC and MC. Lusk was running a very strong second until he lost a chain and his bike spit him off. Fonseca won the 125 class again, after passing Smith. Schnell was third, Buckelew and Langston had bad starts. Huffman, Lytle, Bentley, and Pastrana didn't race.
Suzuki's new semi for Windham looks good. ANAHEIM SUPERCROSS AFTERPARTY, FEBRUARY 3RD 2001 Ray's photos from this weekend's Columbus Arenacross are going up here.

Johnny Marley, cooled by Engine Ice. Attendance from Supercross folks at the Dealer News Expo will probably be at a peak this year. In the past the event was on a Supercross weekend and people had to dash from a Supercross in Atlanta or Pontiac and get there for Sunday with little or no sleep. This time its on an off weekend, between the Indy and Atlanta rounds.
