TFS World Headquarters TFS Regular Surf Stops
The new TFS e-mag Empire "Logo of the Millenium" was designed, produced, saved, and e-mailed by the one-and-only Chris Tedesco, smpmxracer@aol.com, who will now be showered with e-mail requests for more. Check out his site at www.dirtrider.net/mxro. |
NEWS: Running a series-leading team requires one to be focused and serious all the time. There is no time for fooling around in big time racing. Larry Brooks demos...

OK smart people, this photo has been on Mnews before. Who is it? And if you are really sharp, what race?? The latest news on Jimmy Button is better than ever. Now the folks in rehab have him in a walker and doing laps in the hall. MC said his new video game from Acclaim for N64, Jeremy McGrath Supercross 2000, will be out tuesday. Check their web site for a Quicktime video sample and more pimpin. Another MC record set this weekend - He now has 21 wins on the YZ, which broke Hannah's previous record of 20.
Jeff Gibson has a CR now, he was on a YZ 2 weeks ago.
Ask the expert: After the Atlanta main I asked MC to confirm how many SX's he won, and consecutive laps led and all that. Answer: 66 Supercross wins, 80 laps led since Phoenix. That is not his best streak though, in 1996 he led 99 laps. "I won 14 races in that year." he said. He and his dad Jack proudly repeated the stats. After setting all the records, they are still having a great time. Racer X's web site has an interview with our friend Sondra. Also, check out Racerhead and pick your own caption for the photo at the bottom (very funny DC!). As always, the Supercross results place to be in real time is at PACE's site. Atlanta is a local race for Mark at Speedvision, so look for a quick post from him too.
It's confirmed, Albee is out with a broken femur - dang. He crashed in Friday practice in Atlanta. Cycle News happened to be on the phone with someone at the track when it happened, and they posted right away. First we had virtual grandstand, now we have virtual ambulance... Also Ramsey broke his thumb.
Here's #2 Pit Beirer and Mickael Maschio on their Winfield Kawasaki's. More photos are on the way. (Archer photo) The emag 2000 also has a media release of photos from the Indianapolis dealer expo, check out the photos section. Just in time for Atlanta:

Atlanta: 1977, 500 nationals: One of Hannah's most impressive rides must have been the second to last 500 national in Atlanta, 1977. Hannah went down in the first turn of the first moto and got up way last with his clutch perch broken and the lever and cable hanging off the bike. He took off just holding the lever to the bar. Even before the halfway point he passed the whole pack! The second moto was an all-out chase with Marty Smith, which Hannah won. The next stop was the final round, and Hannah DNF'd when his throttle cable broke. Smith won the title.
The Indianapolis Dealer Expo 2000 was well-attended. There are plenty of photos waiting to go up after the emag report for Pontiac is done. A few previews are on Motoalk already. The best racing on Saturday was for sure the head-to-head battle between Fonseca and Pastrana in the second 125 heat. That may not have been the best action all weekend though. By those that were there, it was suggested that Friday's renta car Snocross/Ground Freestyle was a classic. Pontiac was a great place for photos. Both myself and Hoppen are claiming to have magic finger, but it was probably just luck on my part. Hoppen's photos will be on www.frankhoppen.com. In case you didn't know he scans the best out of about 40 rolls of slides, and posts them for magazines and or companies that buy photos, then a few days later they are open for browsing. Is the media obsolete yet? Saturday's 125 winner Stephane Roncada has already posted his own account of the Pontaic 125 main on his own web site, www.ronronmx.com. His site is great and it is a busy hangout for his fellow Motocross Madness junkies. Art the Clairvoyant, otherwise known as Eckman, had Roncada picked for the 125 winner after watching him in practice. Mr Bar-to-Bar got me on this one, I picked Pastrana (4th).
The weekend isn't over yet. Results have been slow due to the trip to the trade show in Indianapolis. A lot of photos are up already on emag 2000, but there will be much more to see.
Some photo guy named Mark is messing up this photo. The other three were greeting Press at the Pontiac Supercross.
OK smart people - name the rider, the event, and the year. Post answers on Mototalk.
TFS and his brother trying to get to Pontiac, then to Indy for the trade show this weekend. It looks like it's going to be snow plows and delayed flights for the Pontiac EA Sports Supercross weekend. What better thing to do on a snowy night than watch the 125 east class go at it for the second time? This will be a "don't miss" event. The weather web site I checked says 18 degrees about the time the race is over. In Minneapolis once it was ten below after the show, and it had over 60,000 people inside!
Here's our buddy Oggi's version of a Brock Sellards photo from Indy.
Steve G at www.motodrive.com calls this one "let Broc bye."
This week the race show goes to Pontiac, and the industry trade show takes over the RCA dome in Indianapolis. The trade show extends into monday, so plenty of race folks will scramble back to indy for the schmoozing.
Last year the show floor guys figured out how to get the Toyota truck up on the section that goes into the stands. Last year Pontiac was the only 125 east event Ernesto didn't win. Sellards did.
From Geoff Meyer, here's Everts on his new husky and his No Fear gear.
More: -Reynard - Not ready. Don't look for him at Pontiac. -Matt Walker - went to hospital, injured spleen, out for SX. -Greg Schnell - San Diego's 125 winner got 11th in his first 250 race! -Damon Huffman - Watch him next week, he looked aggressive at Indy. -Tyler Evans - Another podium - and he did it in the so-called stacked 125 east. Very impressive! -Matt Shue - Another nice guy from Georgia made the main and finished 12th. -Mike Craig - Looked his best in quite a while.
DC's Racerhead on www.racerxill.com is full of news this friday. Hey Cycle News has digicam Supercross stuff this week! They have run digital before and a leading road race photohound has been using digital, but for Supercross this is new.
Our main man in France French TFS just posted a press release about the Free Time Yamaha GP team. It's on www.blockpass.com, the web site that has a HOPPEN block pass on the front. Hoppen and I have a contest going to see who can stay on the cover of Block Pass the most. I guess he's a lap ahead right now...but it's a long season, and anything can happen.
SX on TV: "Surf's Up" Cody surfed up this SX on TV schedule: Supercross on TV (ESPN2) In case you missed it: Tallon Vohland is next on the injured list with a case of "I will be ready for the Nationals." Actually in his case he injured a shoulder at Houston. This weekend in Belgium a showdown beween Smets and Everts is billed as a preview of the 500 GPs, which kickoff in Australia in March. Here's a quick preview from Meyer: EVERTS VS SMETS Our reliable digicam brigidista Steve G sent in photos from the Jimmy Button Benefit Auction . Here's that Husky:
The weekend's EA Sports Supercross at Indy will feature the kickoff of the east 125 series, which will be very competitive. The matchup between Ernesto Fonseca, Travis Pastrana, Stephane Roncada, and Nathan Ramsey has everyone saying this series will rock. With RC picking up steam and MC and Vuillemin stealing the show in Supercross, Honda must be wondering where the season is going. The top Honda rider is the remarkable Mike LaRocco, who is on the tongue-twister team (see below). This week the Red Riders will be hanging at Kevin's. Georgia's Shae Bentley was confident going into Houston after two previous finishes in third and second. He has been charging to the front even when he has a bad start, so if he stays healthy - look out. Pingree still has the points lead.
Here's a happy guy - MC wins big in Houston. Holeshot, never challenged. Win #63. RC second (his best ever) Vuillemin third.
RC's best ever. Second in 250, and his second podium in a row. He's got the momentum, and you know what that means.... The TFS emag 2000 has a special feature, Supercross - the Sport that is Sizzling Hot! Check it out!
Button support button.
The dot on photographer Kinney Jones' battery is a Button sticker, and so is the dot on the Pro Circuit guy's radio. 333 is Brian McGavran, Emig's teammate. The Jimmy Button Benefit Auction at Chaparral on Feb 8 seems to be expanding by the minute. Their web site has a list of items that is already very impressive. If you can fly in, drive in, walk in, or land with a parachute, don't miss it. So who do these two ride for? Let's get it right... This is the AMSOIL/Competition Accessories/Jack in the Box Team presented by Factory Connection. I think that means they race dirt bikes for the people in the name. Mike is the guy on the right. He did good last year, and he is currently third in points in the EA Sports Supercross, presented by Toyota Trucks on his AMSOIL/Competition Accessories/Jack in the Box Team presented by Factory Connection Honda. Here's Mike again on his AMSOIL/Competition Accessories/Jack in the Box Team presented by Factory Connection Honda. Steve Giberson at www.motodrive.com has a photo report on the CMC Golden State Series Round 2 at LACR. We don't have any info on crashes other than what is on Mototalk 2. If you want to read more about David Vuillemin, check out some of the emag stuff from the off season. The 1999 e-mag covered the Stade de France which he won, and emag 2000 has a report on Bercy, where DV followed MC around for 5 out of six motos. At the Press conference after Bercy MC commented that he and DV were practicing together in CA already and DV didn't need any lessons from him. Also MC said DV was pretty good at picking different lines and he would make racing here more interesting. Back then Vuillemin said chasing MC (and Lusk and KW) around for three nights would not be the same as riding with 20 top riders in the US. After Phoenix, Vuillemin should officially make your top contender list, if he wasn't on it before. But the season is just 1/4 over, and a few other top riders will still have a chance to spend some time up front. This weekend watch for Windham to shake "it," and RC to go for a win. And LaRocco, and... Motocross.com's regular "Cody" (Craig Book) did this Interview with RC after RC's best ever finish in the 250 class. When you listen to the Houston Supercross live audio saturday, stick around after the main because PACE will have Canadian motohero J-S Roy right after the fizzy and speeches. This might be the fastest ever real race report from someone who was in the race. Bauer sends us this 'Net mafia photo, with a few revisions:
(L to R) Steve "The Thyroid" Bruhn, Bryan "The Editor" Stealy, DC (Mr Microphone), stevey d, and our favorite car guy. Hey one is missing - where's Bauer?
Waiting for MC. This guy waited in one of those two-time zone autograph lines for MC suited up like this. Who's this?
It's our new friend Dorina Groves, excellent PR tyrant for Chaparral Motorsports. She's organizing the Jimmy Button benefit on Feb 8, and working the crowds that stop by to see MC and Tim Ferry at the races. More news, in case you missed it: Vohland is fine, he just didn't keep riding after he and Holland hit hard at Phoenix. Gosselaar is OK too, just sore. Judging from the reaction at the track and on the web after Phoenix, people aren't buying MC's explanation of his second place finish to Vuillemin. Dirt Cool's Shibata and I interviewed MC right after the main saturday after he finished talking to DC for ESPN. MC said he could honestly say he had no idea Vuillemin had also passed KW, RC, and Ferry and caught him while he was cruisin. He sounded sincere, and he had just told Stanton, the podium folks, and everyone else the same thing. Oh well, part of the fun of sport is watching this happen and deciding for yourself what is what. It's over, Vuillemin won, and MC said that won't happen again. Look out Houston! The depressing part of the Teams 2000 section of emag 2000 (the injury section) got an update.
(Special thanks to Steve G for the cool new graphics!)
