Motonews calls around to get

New SX billboards up in LA!

Hoffmaster and
Bradshaw took the wins
Friday at Ft Worth.
Heath Voss was here
in his first race since the Vegas SX when he rode the Honda CRF450R and
dislocated a bone in his wrist. He bought land near San Antonio and is
training with Kent Howerton. He is
racing SX for Blackfoot and will decide on US nationals or Canadian after
Hangtown.
Bradshaw took Voss out in the 250 main with an aggressive
block pass (photos later). Traffic was heavy in the first lap of the main
when Holland (holeshot), Voss, and Lange
all did the turn just before the catapult in the same line, and they all had
to slow down and not double the big jump. After that the whole pack had to
roll over it for that lap. You don't see that too often. Holland jammed his
toe and slowed down.
In the 125 Main Hoffmaster looked great. Holland had that
holeshot too but lost the lead. Bradshaw got hung up behind
Willoh and mentioned it a couple of
times on the podium.
Demuth sat out the night because of a concussion in practice.
Not sure about tonight. Gonzalez did
worse. He broke a femur in practice and already had surgery at a local
hospital. The break was clean and no complications are expected.
Justin Brayton, who
got famous at Des Moines, was here again but crashed out of the 125 main
when he looped it in the rhythm section. Adam
Mennenga is now racing for Plano, looked good.
Damien Plotts broke the forks on
his CRF450, he raced the 125 class but something happened at the start and
he rode the first lap in last.
Kenny Bartam was
racing and won the jump contest! Jason
Upshaw, who hasn't raced pro since 1994, was here (with a big "Holeshot
Magazine" sticker and will be on his way to Anaheim.
Johnny Marley was here. He
will go to Anaheim with Reynard for SX.
Demuth still leads the series by 15 points.
Ryan Huffman had a
bike stolen, sheesh.

After Christmas weekend, the next big

expo at the same time. One new face at Ft Worth be Crossroad

This is from

"I thought I'd pass the news that Ray
DeMarini of DeMarini Handlebars passed away last Friday at
his home in Hillsboro Oregon. Ray had been
battling cancer for a couple of years. The
Ray DeMarini Cancer Research Fund has
been set up on his behalf. People can go to
www.raydemarini.com
and contact the media cabin if they would like to
donate. Ray had a wife and a 12 year
old son. His wife is remarkably strong and is
doing quite well, but I'm sure that thoughts and prayers would be
appreciated. On his site there is a
picture of him with the eye patch that he wore for
the last year after losing his eye in an operation to remove a tumor from
his brain. Ray was an amazing man. Brad and I attended the service on
Wednesday and took away the same sentiment that everyone who knew him
shared, "If Ray liked you, he would cheer for you until the end."

Damon Bradshaw
is the King of Geneva! He and Josh
Demuth were closely matched all weekend, but in the end a couple
bad starts for Demuth made the difference and Bradshaw came out on top after
winning three out of 4 main events at the PALEXPO in Geneva, Switzerland.
The show was a great Euro style race/concert/party, with the standard
airhorns, loud music, and wild enthusiasm. The best part for the Euros
was when Marc Ristori won a semi
Saturday night. The crowd went nuts!

Europe loves Bradshaw! The crowd
had Bradshaw banners, and the media interviews were pretty long.

Dupasquier
will be one of the Euros going against the National Arenacross series
regulars tonight in Geneva.
Thursday practice went well at the
PALEXPO in Geneva for the next weekend of racing in the
National/International Arenacross Series. All the US series
regulars are present and accounted for, except
Dostal who injured his spleen and didn't go. The race will
feature the US tour vs some top Euros who were invited. The two that
looked good in practice were Dupasquier
and local hero Marc Ristori. Lalloz,
who won a 250 main at this event last year, broke his ankle and isn't
here.
Look for updates on the official
Arenacross web site, www.arenacross.com.
For some of the US crew, this will be
their first Euro-style wild show, and for some the largest crowd they have
raced for. Saturday is sold out and the PALEXPO is set up to hold about
25,000.

Today the Motonews mobile mediamobile
leaves for Atlanta to meet Tuesday with the Arenacross delegation which is
racing in Geneva, Switzerland Dec 14/15. Updates will be a little
scarce this week, due to the travel. After Geneva, Motonews will be in
Alabama for Christmas, then off on another sick road trip, this one for the
first five rounds of EA Sports Supercross, then Indy on Feb 9.
Motonews will be mobile till then!

The Geneva Arenacross is for National
Arenacross points, but is billed as a Supercross in Switzerland. This
will be the second time AX goes there to race.
Jeff Willoh was the overall winner last December there.
The crowd was wild and crazy, and Willoh said when it was over they had to
escort him off the track like a rock star. Very cool.
The winners of the regional Arenacross
in Rochester were Fri: Brian Stone,
125; Jim Neese, 250; and Sat:
Brandon Bartz, 125; and
Jim Neese, 250.
Mnews just got cool new graphics from future celebrity
artist Marc Estabrooks.
Marc does the FactoryMX.com 'toon in Racer
X too. At least we get some work out of him
before he gets to famous for us web sites. He will be the next
Andy Warhol, then he will sell out to
Slack-Mart and cheapen everything, and its down hill from there.
The night after the Las Vegas EA Sports
Supercross, CCE's Charlie Mancuso said
they had worked with the AMA for 27 years, and they will be with them
another 27 years. This drew a loud cheer from the audience. This
weekend AMA Pro Racing's Scott Hollingsworth
introduced Jam Sports and told the audience at the awards banquet the move
to its AMA Supercross series would be good for the sport. He got a
relatively cold reception. Maybe the AMA is leading supercross into a
great new era, but first they need to convince supercross people the split
with CCE is a good idea. They haven't done that yet.
 |
12/09/01: |
175 |
If you were waiting to see if the AMA
and CCE could get back together and run just one supercross series from 2003
on, you can stop waiting. The word after the AMA awards banquet is the split
is real. Brace yourself for 12 months of competition for venues, teams,
riders, and opinion. There will be two supercross series in 2003. The
battle for supercross will begin a new phase, with both sides looking for
the all-important big names to give its series legitimacy and draw the
crowds. When its over the standard "factory ride/go where the team
goes" thing could be a thing of the past.
