RC went 1-1 at Steel City, completing an unprecedented perfect season, 24-0 moto wins!  Add to that the last three supercrosses and RC has been on top of the podium for the last 27 times the gate has dropped.  Not even Bob Hannah ever won that many in a row.  RC also broke Hannah's all time record for 250 class wins:  Hannah 27, RC 28 (and counting).  Bubba also went 1-1 at Steel City, but Matt Walker had his best outdoor day ever, leading most of the first moto and making Bubba work for it. Bubba has set records this season too, most notably his 10 wins out of 12, a record for the 125 class, and he's a rookie!

The best part of the press conference at Steel City was when Bubba said "I know I can beat him (RC) on a 125," and everyone laughed and went "oooooooooooo." Then RC came back and said "any time he feels frisky, he can step up to the 250s," (More oooos and laughing).

Stefy Bau won the WML championship. Jessica Patterson won the Steel City round.

Alley Semar, KW's long time mechanic and good friend, is going to run Pro Circuit's team next year. That doesn't mean he and KW had a falling out, but Alley needs to take a spot instead of waiting to see if KW decides to return next year.

List of 2002 MXoN teams.  MXoN because its Motocross of Nations now.  Not only did someone ruin the format, they screwed up the name too!

At Steel City this weekend the attention is again on RC, where he could do a perfect sweep of an entire MX season.  No one would have ever thought it possible 4 months ago!  Also, the last round of the WML national championship will be decided, with Stefy Bau leading in points going into the last round.

In GP's , all eyes this weekend will be directed towards defending number one Stefan Everts, currently leading the 500 standings by 40 points over team-mate Marnicq Bervoets and 44 points from fellow Belgian Joel Smets who has won the last two Grand Prix. Everts arrives in Loket having previously taken a victory at the circuit in 1997 on the way to winning the 250cc Championship. The factory Yamaha rider and most successful man in motocross with 54 career wins, and five titles across all classes (125 in 1991, 250 from 1995 to 1997 and of course the 500 in 2001) is now perfectly placed to achieve another record by equaling Joel Robert's haul of six Championships.

Special Interview on MXNationals.com:  RC talks about the future.

This weekend the AMA/Chevy Trucks U.S. Motocross championship wraps up.  Both titles are handed out, but everyone wants to see if RC is going to end it with another 1-1, which would make the first ever (and maybe the only ever) perfect season.  Last weekend at Binghamton RC tied Hannah's career 27 250 wins, so he could break that record with a win at Steel City.

Plano Honda is skipping Steel City.

RC and Bubba both went 1-1 at Binghamton. Bubba becomes the youngest champion ever!  RC got both holeshots and took off (sheesh).  Bubba got one holeshot and Fonseca the other, and in both 125 motos Reed led Bubba and sometimes they traded the lead, but in the first moto Reed crashed back to 9th.  Ferry had crashing trouble, and in moto 1 Tortelli also crashed and tore off a silencer.  Langston was a spectator.  He rode some practice but his knee was bothering him too much.  Roncada was out with a sore ankle, the same one he banged up at Hangtown in the confrontation with RC.   Reynard was also out due to a sprained wrist.  LaRocco got good starts and went 2-2.

Hamblin made the podium for the first time.  He looked good even though he said he was a hardpack rider from the tracks in the west.

Everts is staying with Yamaha for the 2003 GPs.  He will be riding a YZ450F in an attempt to unseat the dominant Mickael Pichon.  He also reportedly likes the YZ250F and would like to contest it in the 125 class, but his sponsor Rinaldi probably won't want him too.

Practice and qualifying for Sunday's national at Binghamton was cancelled due to rain.  Weather should be better Sunday and they will have to do everything in the morning.

Honda proudly displayed this banner after moto 2 at Millville.  RC won both motos form start to finish, no troubles-again!  He has 20 straight, and is the first rider to win a title without losing a moto.  Lusk was second, Tortelli third.  In 125s Reed and Bubba traded moto wins, and Bubba took the overall with a 2-1, to Reed's 1-2.  Sellards was third.  The Reed/Bubba battle for the lead in moto 1 was a close hard-fought race, and eventually Reed ran away with it.  The moto was a significant confidence boost for Reed.  Bubba said he had trouble with the bike's front end in moto 1 and came back with different settings and a different tire, and he led the second moto wire to wire.  Langston was holding Reed off for second in that moto but he crashed out, and went to the hospital as a precaution to make sure he had no internal injuries.  He was released Sunday and went to dinner with his dad, Gerald

Putting the new toy away for now.

RC to stick with 2-stroke for 2002 outdoor nationals:  RC has said many times he isn't focused on the win streak, just the championship, and he will ride the 4-stroke in a national if Honda says to do it, streak or not. Here's the problem: If RC wins the title early and switches to the 4-stroke, not winning a moto on it could be counter-productive. Also he has important 2-stroke races coming up like the MXdN and US Open. Now it looks like they will put the 4-stroke away for now and think about Glen Helen 2003.

There is no talk of a 125 showdown at Steel City too, but you knew that.

Business:  MXNationals.com Having Its Best Summer Ever.  Check out the viewing stats.

Motocross ace Josh Coppins has been found not guilty of doping and remains racing in the world championships.  The New Zealand-born star, 25, was found to have been negligent in taking a hay fever tablet containing a banned substance, pseudo-ephedrine, before the Grand Prix of Austria in June.  Coppins loses the 20 points and prize money for third place in that event, but remains second overall in this year's 250 championship.  Sheesh, can't a guy take some medicine if he races GPs?  No wonder GP stars are flocking to the U.S., they treat them like this and don't want to pay them either.

Pastrana's getoff at the Gravity Games.  After a few days of busting out backflips and incredible moves-probably the most impressive freestyle event ever, Pastrana gets a quick trip to the hospital to have his knee checked.  Media people covering the event got official smoke and mirrors, supposedly they were to wait for a press release and the results of an MRI.  That's called putting whipped cream on dog poopy.  The real extent of his injury is still not announced, but its pretty likely he will be out for a long time.  If he shows up at the X Games (very unlikely) they better have some good knee braces.  Travis is awesome, best wishes and get well soon.

Travis won the Moto X Challenge on the last day at the Backflip Games, but he fell off during the step-off competition Sunday and went off the bike.  When he hit the ground he jammed his right knee pretty hard.  He will need to get an MRI before they know for sure what is up with the knee, and if he will miss any events.   Hopefully the rumor mill won't spin out of control on this one!    Here's a news bit from the official event site.

Today is practice at the World's Greatest Motocross Vacation!

Pichon won the Genk GP in Belgium, a record-breaking 6th GP in a row.  Coppins was second, and Reynard was 8th after charging back from a crash.  DV said on Mototalk the Reynard was going fast enough to make a podium there.

Bum RapDeegan (center) makes a 2-year deal with No Fear, and gets tossed in an Ohio jail and misses Gravity Games.   Why?  So far all we have is he talked smack to an Ohio cop.  Look at that face.  How could anyone accuse him of such a thing, some girlyman cop?

Motocrosser pro-turned-boat-racer Scott Gillman takes pole at the Grand Prix of Germany. Here's a post on Mototalk about it.

"Honest Roger, I didn't jump into any canyons..."   Travis to launch his bike into Lake Erie at the Gravity Games?  Hey, why not, these backflips are getting boring.

Metzger is now sponsored by ECC.

Tyler Evans was let go by the Husqvarna team.  People are wondering if the team will return to US racing in its current form, or will it shut down.

In case you missed it:  Here's Yamaha's note about DV missing the rest of the nationals due to shoulder surgery.

Another big purse race:  Last week we had the Lake County Stadium Motocross, now check out the 2nd annual Alamotocross in Sparks NV.  They have an add in the July 31, Cycle News, page 81.  It has a big purse for MX and FMX.  Event info is 775 677-7540.

Ezra Lusk tested Kawasaki's '03 KX 250 at Glen Helen and Kawi's test track last week and reportedly was very impressed with the bike in stock form.  Kawasaki's race testing for 03 just started.

Pastrana will not be at Millville.  His endurance still isn't there so it makes no sense to try and race.  On the positive side, he won the prelims at the Gravity Games Friday with 4 backflips.  He can do FMX fine, his problems with endurance just keep him from doing long motos.
