Engine Ice Daily News: Oops! You should be looking at the Current Engine Ice Daily News, this is April. To go to the current month, touch the Chevy Logo... Page 2 of the 5-week Supercross/Motocross Engine Ice Road Trip is up!
SLC people photos are up! See the babes, the Mototalkers, the Honda 50/70 rides, Larry Brooks twins, and more... Snoop did an excellent recap of the 125 SX top ten for his site to get you ready for the Dave Coombs east/west showdown this weekend. Check it out. At the Pontiac Supercross, Jim Kimball interviewed Casey Johnson, just before the bomb got dropped on the EdgeSports.gone team. Here is the interview. Bummer: JMB won't be returning to race the AMA/Chevy Trucks U.S. Motocross Championships after all. According to the people who know in France, he will be prevented from returning due to knee problems.
Salt Lake City got a new show to look forward to, assuming the series makes a regular stop. The weekend was a blast. The SLC crowd was loud and enthusiastic, and the SFX folks seemed to be really upbeat about it. It was just that kind of weekend. Everyone was impressed with Rice-Eccles stadium too.
This flagger had a good time.
RC is just one win away from equalling MC's incredible 13 straight wins. RC won a thrilling battle at Salt Lake City. Check your TV schedule for when it will be on ABC.
RC also sealed a deal with Fox for 4 more years. Rumors are abundant about a possible move to Honda for 2002, but its too early. He may let us know in a few weeks what is up- maybe.
Don't even think about MC bailing out after this season. He is taking the RC thing pretty well overall, even though it was hard for him to get used to. He will be back for more in 2002, and he will be doing the usual fall/winter "spending money" trips overseas.

This is the view from the other side. The whole city is under construction to get ready for the 2002 Winter Olympics. Its really hard getting around but it is an awesome place. 2001 Motocross World Championship: New date for the round in Austria The Tuesday following the Dallas Supercross was an all-day photo shoot with steveyd and Wide Open magazine. Here is a special preview, words by steveyd. Also, don't miss this blatant ripoff of the Racer X "Two Tribes" feature... Steve Meyers, race team manager for St Louis Powersports, has resigned according to the super-secret emag news network. People photos from Dallas are up!
It's a looooooong way across Kansas. Practice for this weekend's GP in Belgium was rained out. Team Yamaha's David Vuillemin wants to race. He is over his broken collarbone and has been riding about 2 weeks. Since he is feeling good, he confirmed this morning he is leaving today for Salt Lake City to race round 15 of the EA Sports Supercross series.
Welcome to Dodge City. You can leave now, you have seen everything.

Robbie Reynard, Travis Pastrana, Johnny Marley, and Jake Martin were amoung the fast pros doing a Tuesday night race on 59th and Douglas in Oklahoma City. That's RR in the photo with a white number plate. Travis has his hands full all night, he and RR traded win in the 250 class. Travis crashed in the 125 first moto and sat out the second. RR won easy.
"Retired" Arenacross fast guy Charlie Bogard stole the day at a photo shoot for wide open magazine at Cooperland and Stillwater in Oklahoma. He did sick, flat look-back whips, and dragged the bars in a sandy corner so much his wheel stopped when sand got in the chain. Look for reviews of both the above real soon by steveyd, who is now with Wide Open magazine.

Maybe Ezra is the guy who can break RC's 11-race win streak. RC's win at Dallas wasn't easy. Ezra was all over him until he fell.
KTM won its first main event Saturday at Dallas, but they have swept the whole series in the KTM Peewee Supercross Challenge. The winners of each all get to race this October at the US Open.
Articles about both classes are up on the emag 2001.
A trophy hunnie at the Australian GP last weekend tried on a Motonews.com hat for Motodude. At least for now you can scratch Larry Ward off the YZ250F list, at least not with the Pro Action shop in Tennessee he was going to ride the nationals for. The deal didn't happen. Anyone else? Ryan Hughes was awesome at the four stroke nationals race at Glen Helen today, winning both motos by wide margins in the US race debut of that Honda 450 4-stroke. So far Ryno is the only Honda guy confirmed to race it in the nationals, but Honda wants it to be in every race so if something should happen to him another Honda guy might race it. All have tried it and say good things about it, including LaRocco. There are a total of 5 of them in the states, and at least one or two with some serious track time. This number doesn't include the secret stash in Georgia that has been there since last year or whatever... Casey Johnson is talking to KTM about riding the nationals for them on a 125. KTM really wanted him before this season but he wanted a 250 ride so he went with Fro's team, which is now dissolved. Tonight's EA Sports Supercross in Dallas will should be a big night. RC is getting pretty close to a title, and Fonseca is too in 125s. It could be a double title night. If you aren't going, listen to the web broadcast on www.pacesupercross.com, where the celeb guest will be David Pingree. Nutec racing fuels has an impressive record in road racing. They want to expand into Motocross, here's the press release. GP contender Josh Coppins has a web site. It's www.joshcoppins.com. Stefy Bau has a new engine builder: She writes "Im pleased to announce that since the 12th day of April 2001, Mike Rossini of RRP is the engine builder sponsor. RRP will be in charge of all engine works and suspension for the entire season. Ive already been testing with Mike and I have to say that Im really impressed." Here's the latest on Buddy Duffy
from his mom Joan: While Thor/HJC Helmets/Metzger Motorsports rider Dustin
Miller was on the phone pledging money to support the Air Fence
fundraising campaign initiated by Roadracing World/Team Hammer owner John
Ulrich, Michaels Reno Suzuki was sending him a contract for bike
sponsorship. Who's in and who's out for Dallas: IN: Travis Pastrana in 250
class. OUT: Pingree, ribs. More: didn't see Fro yet, and the only KX in Pro Circuit's pit is Eric Vallejo. RC can clinch the title if things go his way. MC can keep his hopes of winning the Vans Triple Crown $.5 mill if he wins. ABC News is covering this race too. The pit buzz does confirm Pichon wants to race some Supercross in 2002.
Byrne is riding an Emig Racing KX250, which he will have for the last three SX races. After that he either 1) Takes an offer for a 125 ride for nationals, 2) Waits to see if Emig can get money together for nationals on KX250, or 3) goes home and trains for next year.
This is the moble media headquarters one needs while driving across Arkansas, more on the road trip later... Imprtant stuff from Dorito, Dept:
Road Trip: It's a long way to Dallas...
"My first goal for 2001 was to help Honda develop the four-stroke. My
second goal is to put the bike on top of the winner's circle," said Ryan Hughes, (in a Honda press release). Today is day 2 of the 5-week Supercross/Motocross Engine Ice Road Trip. The spectator's CPU shut down somewhere in Kentucky (nap time). Best road tunes so far: ZZ Top and Uriah Heep. You can keep the new crap, Heep rocks.
It looks like we had a Mototalker in the audience at Pontiac.
The AMA/Chevy Trucks U.S. Motocross championships kick off just one week after EA Sports Supercross wraps up at Vegas. All kinds of cool things are happening: Ryno will race the new Honda 4-stroke, Shaun Palmer is going to give real motocross a try, JMB is returning to race a Suzuki, Vuillemin will be back, and so will Larry Ward, Michael Brandes, (YZ250F) and John Dowd (KTM 520). Also returning of course will be defending champions Travis Pastrana and Ricky Carmichael. Carmichael has been a pro since 1997, and he has never lost an outdoor title, and never lost a race at Glen Helen.
Fonseca might have a title night as well as RC this weekend. He is 20 points ahead of Buckelew with 2 rounds to go, including Dallas. (The last round is a combined east/west race and doesn't count for title points.
Grant Langston will want to make up for that mistake at the last west 125 race in Houston. He proved he can ride out front in Supercross, but you know what happened.
Working the cotton candy concession at Pontiac. Today marks the beginning of the 5-week Supercross/Motocross Engine Ice Road Trip! The TFS mediamobile is leaving snowy Pittsburgh for Dallas, and won't be back until after Hangtown, round 2 of the outdoor series. You can track road trip progress on the front page of Motonews.com. Vuillemin is back in Southern California, and he was happy to go riding and start getting ready for Vegas and Glen Helen. France is looking forward to America's outdoor motocross championships. Things didn't go so well in Supercross since DV, Tortelli and Roncada all some missed races due to injury. All should be healthy and fast for Glen Helen, and they will be joined by the origional French fast guy, JMB himself. Its hard to predict how he will do, but no matter what his return is news. Maybe Cycle News should do a second Virtual Grandstand in French. Maybe we should have a round of the outdoor nationals in France? A really late version of news from Pontiac is up right here. It's not illegal for riders under 16 to ride in Connecticut after all. Mary Galvin, the State's Attorney that was handling reports that a track at Milford was a "regular stop for E.M.T's," issued a press release this morning. The press release is on Mototalk. After the events at the track and the state's investigation was a subject in the AMA's magazine "American Motorcyclist," the buzz was all about it would be illegal for younger riders to participate in motocross. It didn't turn out that way. It was all about one track and things are worked out.
AMA Press release on Dallas SX: PICKERINGTON, Ohio -- Now that it's almost certain that Ricky Carmichael is going to win the 2001 EA Sports Supercross championship, the one prize that defending champ Jeremy McGrath is still hoping to win is the cool half-million dollar paycheck by completing a sweep of the Vans Triple Crown of Supercross. The second round of the three-race series within a series is set for Saturday, April 21 at Texas Stadium in Irving, Texas. McGrath rode his Team Mazda Yamaha to victory in round one
of the Vans Triple Crown in Anaheim, Calif., on Jan. 20. If McGrath wins in Texas Stadium
he will have a chance at the $500,000 prize at the final round in Las Vegas on May 5. The
Vans Triple Crown, in its third year, has yet to produce a three-race winner. Frenchman,
David Vuillemin, came agonizingly close last year by winning the first two rounds, but
fell short finishing fourth in the finale. If McGrath doesn't win at Texas and Las Vegas,
then the rider with the most points from the three rounds will take home a check for
$25,000. News that sucks Dept.: The winners at the Aussie GP in Broadford were the same as round 1 in Spain: Dobb, Pichon, and Everts. Motodude sent in great photos of each class, you can find them here. Motodude says Byrne plans on finishing the Supercross series, that's all we know.
Your favorite interviewer Jim Kimball sent in another chat, this one is with Nick Wey. DC's racerhead on www.racerxill.com was great as always. One bit that you won't want to miss is the return of Pat Schutte to the world's coolest sport! Pat was the PR manager for Supercross, 1998-99, and left to do something with 4-wheeled beasts and razz the Portolas on Mototalk. Now he's back. Motonews is looking forward to hearing more about what DC and Pat are up to. Motodude is covering the Aussie GP, Round 3 for Motonews. Here are photos from today's qualifying...
Byrne is still racing with Theedgesports.com gear. AMAProracing.com just posted a cool interview of Ezra Lusk by the interviewmeister, Jim Kimball. Press release: IFMA continues to expand its
worldwide presence as pacefmx.com presents the EA SPORTS Supercross IFMA Freestyle Bonus.
Nine of the series top riders will take center stage at the final round of the EA Sports
Supercross in Las Vegas, NV at Sam Boyd Stadium on May 5th. Scott Sheak surprised the Euros by taking the first day's pole for this weekend's GP in Australia ahead of Chiodi, Ramon, and Dobb. Pichon was fastest in the 250s, and Smets topped Everts in 500 times. Cycle News is reprting Emig is back with Emig Racing for 2002. Along with his partners Tony Strangio and Tim Dixon, the former Strategic Three Motorsports group is now working with The Familie, and is back in the hunt for sponsors and all that.
Rup "I saw something" X. What did Rup-X see, and when did he see it? Stay tuned to Mototalk to find out... IRL drivers Jeff Ward and Casey Mears will Join MC and Travis for a cool promo the Friday before the Dallas Supercross. Here's the press release... With the IFMA series wrapping up in March and starting up again in August,
LBZ/Hession Aggression riders John and Robert Distler have some time on there hands. Not
to worry though, they have found plenty to do in the four months leading up to the
continuation of the 2001 IFMA schedule. Guinness World Records 2001 has a photo of Clifford Adoptante in the Extreme Sports section, and a photo of MC winning Anaheim in 1993 in the section called "Bike Sports." After you finish your taxes this weekend, you can log onto http://www.nea-awards.com/ and vote for your favorite extreme athlete. This info came from Stefy Bau, who knows who you should vote for. You can stop guessing if JMB will be back for the outdoors, its going to happen. Unless something changes (or he really has a wild sense of humor), JMB will race the entire US outdoor championships. He is even going to have a comeback web site called www.jmback.com. Check it out, they are already working on it.
Also, the AMA has confirmed JMB has his license to race, check out www.amaproracing.com. Who has had the most exciting past 12 months? Maybe a lot of people-but Jeff Gibson was a Cannondale test rider/racer, and Arenacross front-runner and he went to Geneva in December. Read about his adventure in this interview. Our Aussie correspondent Motodude reports the former Edgesports.com rider Michael Byrne will be riding the Aussie GP this weekend on a KX for another dot-com, Onetel.com. Jeez, off one dot-com, team, on another.
His ex-teammate Casey Johnson needs a ride too. We may miss him at Dallas, but when the Nationals start he would be a good pick to join the pack of blue YZ250Fs chasing Travis and Langston.
The news about Fro's team unravelling was on Swap's www.transworldmotocross.com web site. Engine Ice goes international! The sponsor of your favorite daily news is now going to be marketed in Japan, here's the press release.

These are the people that won the bidding for the Ricky Carmichael experience thing, that was a benefit for S.A.V.E. (Students Against Violence Everywhere).
RC is tough to bet against this weekend at Pontiac. He has won 10 out of 12 races, and last weekend his start looked like this. Roncada should be back, and Tortelli's knee not as bad as some thought. Sellards will try again too and see how his wrists feel. Pitracer found this story about a goofy state attorney in Connecticut that is telling a club they can't have riders under 16. Here's the link.

You probably knew this was going to happen: Supercross has a record attendance after 13 rounds, averaging 50,212 people. This is 44% higher than 10 years ago. This year Atlanta, New Orleans, and St Louis were about 5,000 higher than just a year ago. Here's the press release...

This might look like just a photo of Terry Boyd talking about the KTM peewee race at St Louis, but it's really a self portrait of your favorite photohound taking a photo of himself on the stadium's big screen (look on the right). Hey Rup-X, good question you raised, why does he wear those gloves? Moto fans are really proud of Ben Bostrom's first world Superbike win this weekend at Kyalami, South Africa, here's his official web site, www.benbostrom155.com.
More Mad Mike! Here's a special feature on his incredible demo at the St Louis SX. April 1 is supposed to be a day for fun pranks and lies, but no one was laughing at the St Louis airport the morning after the Supercross-at least not the people who were going to wait all day and probably the next for room on a flight out after one US Airways plane didn't have a crew, and the people got moved to the next plane. This started a chain reaction of "bumping" which is ok when there is room but when you are last on the list to get on, you get a hotel. Instead of fighting the crowds, "Extreme" Ray Gundy and I grabbed a one-way renta car and made a mad dash for Pittsburgh.
Pastrana at St Louis? Not only did Pastrana ride the 125 class at St Louis, he also rode a qualifying heat in the 250 class and got second between MC and LaRocco, and then he climbed on a KTM 50 and mixed it up with the peewees. Actually #14 is his cousin Kevin Pastrana, who just rode one class and had a mid-pack race. Travis had a pretty exciting weekend though, winning everything in the 125 class after a great battle with Ramsey for the lead on the last lap, and getting a bit of a lecture from LaRocco after that 250 heat race. He sat out the 250 main, details on the 125 racing section on the emag. The amazing Ricky Carmichael now has 9 wins in a row, and he can't wait for this one to be over with. He's really happy to be finally in control of a 250 Supercross title chase, but its stressful too, read about his race and comments on the emag 250 racing section.
