Special Free "Life" Section for the 28th Annual AMA Pro Racing Championship Awards Banquet

2002 AMA Awards Banquet!

AMA Pro Racing scored with its 2002 Awards banquet.  635 people attended the formal banquet at the Ventian hotel in Las Vegas to celebrate the best motorcycle racing there is-ours!  Awards were passed out to all the series sanctioned by the AMA and few few special awards as well.  This is the only time of the year you get to see superstars like Ricky Carmichael, Nicky Hayden, and Chris Carr all in the same place, unless you can round them all up at Daytona or something.

It takes a big ballroom to seat 635 people.  Here are the top American road racing, supercross/motocross, dirt track and hillclimb riders, teams and friends.

AMA Pro Racing CEO Scott Hollingsworth shares the stage with motorcycles, what else?

Awards were given out to all the series champions, up and coming young racers, the manufacturer of the year, top mechanics, and the Sportsman of the Year.  The top award is the AMA Pro Racing/Speed Channel Athlete of the Year.

AMA Pro Racing/Speed Channel Athlete of the Year nominees were RC, Chris Carr, Nicky Hayden, James Stewart, Jr (left to catch a plane),  and hillclimb champion David Watson.

The "may I have the envelope please" guy was AMA Pro Racing's Vice President for Commercial Development, John Farris.

Carmichael wins!  How can you not pick this guy?  No one ever won every moto in a motocross championship, plus he won his second 250 EA Sports Supercross championship.  No one has ever dominated like RC.  It was an historic  year.  He won another cool trophy and an engraved Rolex watch.

Table decorations.
